murder

i saw this guy with a red name running out of DW today and i went and killed him. he should be a murderer right? and the result: i became a murderer...
am i missing something here?

to answer the question. A person that is an offender has a pink name. That means they went hostile on someone. While pink they can be killed with no penalty to you. However the offender status lasts like 15-20 seconds. People use this to try to get people to go murderer on them.
this happened to you. They went offender, ran in town. Waited 13 second and came out. you saw pink and attacked, but while your attack prepared they went white. Your attack finished, they die, you are murderer.
