His name should have turned red if he killed you unless your name was also purple in which case his name stays purple too

i think he must actually kill u once at least to get the red murderous status.or not he shld only be purple and in hostile status which will disappear after a while.

He hits you, but not kills you = he turns purple.
You hit him back = You turn purple.
So it works like this:
IF you attack a PC not wearing a cape/job you turn purple. The hostile (purple) status fades after a while.
If the PC you hit attacks back he also turns purple.
While you two are purple one can kill the other without turning murderer (IIRC) aka red.

Was that fixed? Cause the last time I PvPed (near january) the first person to go purple is the only one who goes purple in a fight. If you are white and attack someone who is purple, you will stay white. That was just my understanding. Someone correct me if a patch in the past few months changed that.

No, that is still the case, if you hit someone back when they are purple and you are still white you do not turn purple.
You would only turn purple if his purple wears off and then you attk him

purple stands for hostile.so only the one that initiated the fight will turn pruple.if u atk a purple guy and kill him before his purple fades away, its ike killing a murderer (u will receive no penalty)

purple does not wear off while you are attacking the person...
you can make someone stay purple all day if you attacked them in 5 second intervals...
if you attack a purple persons wolf... they will stay purple also...
if he killed you and didnt go red... the only thing i can think of is that you both had capes on... or that you were purple also... and when he killed you it didnt count as a murder...
murder status is NOT worth it... you lose a minimum of 10% to erase murder status of ONE person...
