Questions about Rogue

Hello people, I am currently lvl 46 only dagger skills rogue on Phoenix, I've been grinding and getting plevelled hard but I consider myself an extreme newbie. I do not really have any idea what I'm doing and I stopped adding masteries as I'm at 45 now and someone I was talking to online told me to leave a 9 level gap. Now I've read on guides and researched quite abit but I still don't quite understand why I have to do this. Since this is my first char, I don't want to make decisions that I may regret later, and in order to do so, I need to know more about the rogue, but even after reading many guides, I still don't understand what I want.
First off, doesn't this reduce my damage, spells I'm able to learn, basically reduce my potential overall? I know that it increases my sp earned however, but won't I be let's say level 80 but dealing damage of a level 70?
I've been in a huge dilemma deciding what to take as my subclass, this is my first char, and I want this char to be strong and fun. Initially I started out with going for rogue/warlock as it is said to be a good pvp opponent. Everyone else, including my guild is telling me to go either bard or cleric. I do know that with cleric, it is much harder for me to die, and with bard, I don't have to take 10 years to walk to mobs. They say that warlock is a waste because it takes up to much MP. Which I did consider as well.
Regarding my skills, I only have dagger skills now, should I take on a subclass and not max out the essential bow skills? or should i max out the essential bow skills, as well as my subclass skills? Should I just stay pure Rogue?
Thanks for reading this guys, and I would really appreciate help and comments. ^^

That is correct. This is a sacrifice in order to get sp for later levels. You will also be leveling much slower, but I'm guessing this is not a factor since you have someone else playing for you.

If you stay only Rogue, you will not need to farm as much sp. Take up a subclass if you wish to complement your character. It is true that warlock is good in pvp. I don't know why "they" said it's a waste. What you say about cleric and bard are also true. It is all up to you.

Thanks for your feedback chickenfeather ^^. When is the right time to stop the gap then? Is it going to be up to my discretion like when I feel I have sufficient Sp?
About the subclass, when should I add the masteries and skills? Since I am kinda low on Sp now should I try to learn all my rogue skills while being on a 9 level gap, or should I try to balance it out by adding to my subclass, yet making sure that I still have most of my Sp in the rogue first?
For example, I'm level 47 now with masteries at lvl 45, I have 4 masteries in warlock, and if I want to remove the masteries from warlock? Do I have to do a quest or something?
Also, let's say if I want to continue with warlock as a subclass, do I try to add as much masteries and skills as I can, or do I wait until I feel comfortable with my rogue skills first?
Thank you for being patient with me <3

You shouldn't take warlock as subclass for a rogue, you already overkill people anyways. My suggestion would be cleric, very handy in pvp and STR-clerics are good for EU party's. Bard is also an option, but you would suck in pvp (been there, done that

). Bard is, in my opinion, a better subclass for a rogue for EU party's tough, since they need 2 of those and you really dont have to do much (you could go afk without people noticing

). As a bard you can often enter higher lvl EU party's too, for example at 90 cap there were often lvl 70-80 bards in our EU pt at roc Mt since the first tambour doesnt really matter. So to summarize, here's what i did with my char: went from lvl 1-90 with only xbow skills (no pvping, occasional solo grinding) and bard sub (guard tambour, mana tambour and magic dance). And at lvl 90 i switched from bard to cleric for pvp.
Now to answer your questions:
coffeeortea wrote:When is the right time to stop the gap then? Is it going to be up to my discretion like when I feel I have sufficient Sp?
Basically, yes.
coffeeortea wrote:About the subclass, when should I add the masteries and skills? Well for EU party's you should try to max the needed buffs from your subclass, if you are more a solo grinder you should try to max your xbow skills first.
coffeeortea wrote:For example, I'm level 47 now with masteries at lvl 45, I have 4 masteries in warlock, and if I want to remove the masteries from warlock? Do I have to do a quest or something?
You need to take the Curst hearts quest at the Potion Lady (think it's called the skill reallocation quest). 10 Curst hearts give you 1 potion that lets you lower 1 skill or mastery level.
coffeeortea wrote:Also, let's say if I want to continue with warlock as a subclass, do I try to add as much masteries and skills as I can, or do I wait until I feel comfortable with my rogue skills first?
If you would chose for warlock, since you wont be pvping much at lower lvls imo you should try to max your xbow skills to get to higher lvls asap and up your subclass with the spare SP
Hope this helped

Thank you Mameluke, the only part I'm unsure about is the cleric as a subclass part, of the skills he mentioned in Solo Defense, do I only add those kills he mentioned, or don't I have to add certain pre-requisites as well?

Well first mistake you made is that you made a rog, there are better pvp builds than that.

if you plan to do jobwar and fw then get bard because rogues shouldn't be standing there and tanking. its all about hit and run (and not the hit and run into safe zone)there are many times in ctf i stayed stealth until my team started spawn killing. all i did was pick out the loner and run then take out any followers (normally none). wait for them to respawn and pounce on them then take out another loner until my team took back the advantage.
but most of the time you can buy speed pots and cleric would help if you get into a tight situation so i recommend cleric. only do bard if you know what your doing.

I understand, but I'm not leaning towards PvP now after learning that killing only 3 people is gonna make me a class S criminal like Itachi.

Thanks Amarisa, I'm a full blown newbie so I reckon I should try out cleric first and then decide if I still have the patience to play this game and try out other characters. Lol

Hey there, i am still a low lvl rogue BUT i experienced many situations.....
Here are the advantages and Disadvantages of every build:
Pure Rogue(Xbow + dagger):
Advantages1-High ranged attacks.
2-1 Shot kill most of the time.

4-Stun
5-KD
6-(not that much of SP needed about 750K until lvl 100)
Disadvantages1-No buffs.

Good at PVP and PTs
Disadvantages1-HUGE ammount of SP about 2M until lvl 100.
2-Seperate buffs( Meaning that the passive buffs are only casted when the right weapons is put on)
3-Cant stand that long when PVPing
Rogue/Cleric:
AdvantagesLike the PURE Rogue +:
1-Healing
2-Useful PT. Buffs.
3-One of the OUTSTANDING biulds in PVP and PT.
4-Useful Solo Buffs
Disadvantages1-Slow killing
Rogue/Warlock:
advantages1-Like Pure Rogue +:
2-Debuffs.
3-DoT (damage overtime)
4-STUN (2x)
