I have not seen any difference with lucky on items when enchanting.
I had a few items with 5 or 6 luck and they don't '+' any different.

I hope I'm not muddying the waters by giving incorrect information, but I was under the impression that the number of luckys had nothing to do with chance of success.

However: I have seen alchemy where a stone or an elixir looks like it might have failed, and taken the luck attribute OFF the weapon/armor/etc.

For example, yesterday I tried to put an Int stone on my cleric rod, the first one failed. I put a luck stone on it as well, and tried again. That time it worked, but the Luck attribute disappeared.

eh.. muddy water ^^
The lucky attribute will only leave when +ing an item. It also only effects the + of an item. I always use elixirs on drops that have lucky on them.. at 80 cap I got +6 robe pants in 6 elixirs because of the lucky attribute and sold for a nice profit.
Anyway, about your question.. I'd go for +4 or +5 if you're a highish level (like 64+)
