Murder Question
Murder Question
I'm curious - if a player attacks and tries to pk me, but I defend myself and kill them, do I still get murderer status?

Offender Status(pink status) - you get this when you attack someone
Murder Status(red status) - you get this when you kill someone
By killing someone, I mean someone that has neither of these statuses. If you kill someone in murder status, you suffer no penalty. The same goes with a person in offender status.
WARNING!
There is a way people manage to get around this. When I decided I would not use my other character anymore (only level 34), I started trying every possible way to kill lower levels without actually getting murder status or using monster scrolls. One way I found I could do this was with offender status. Offender status lasts for 20 seconds. So what I did was attack someone and run away. I would do this until the person got mad and came after me. I evaded them for 17 seconds and ran back to them. Around the 19th second, they would charge up some kind of attack to kill me. In the next second, my offender status went away. Then when they hit me, they ended up with offender status. You can guess what happened next.
Two times when I was doing this, I over estimated the person's strength and they died. This gave me murder status. THE SAME THING CAN BE DONE WITH MURDER STATUS. As I ran around the desert to remove the murder status by killing monsters, I would have occasional people chase me. I escaped from them since most were way higher than me and would kill me if they caught me. Once I got my murder status to where it was just about to go away, I would let one of these high levels come after me. Right as they charged up an attack to kill me, I used thunder lion shout on a nearby monster to kill it instantly. This removed the murder status and gave it to them once they killed me.
Just be careful whenever you see someone in one of these statuses. Even though killing them in it can't give it to you, it doesn't mean the person can't trick you into getting it.
Couple things to be sure you are safe from this:
1. Only attack within a few seconds of the person getting offender status. If you wait too long, it may run out right as you get to them.
2. Attack the person with an ice move. This will slow them down so you can kill them with the next attack. If you are unlucky and they give you offender status, at least you didn't kill them since ice does no damage. You at least have a chance to get away.
3. Do what you want if you are below level 20. Before level 20, you cannot get murder or offender status. Even if you fall for one of the tricks above, your character will just stop moving and nothing happens.

yeah, that sucks.
Another thing that may help... use things like lion shout or whatever that skill is since it is really fast. If you hit them with it, then they will still have the status. If you don't hit them, they ran out of the offender status and you shouldn't gain any status.

Yeah true....counter resets when he/she gets attacked...it's also a metod to make murderer out of noob people when cape pvp'ing...Dunno bout y'all but i really hate high lvls repeatedly killing newbies just coz they can, and asshole who attack you when you are uncaping...so i just sit there and uncape, and if an unfortunate asshole tries to kill me (especially with a nuke) when it's too late...murderer
