What happens if your durability gets too low?

What happens if your durability gets too low?

If your durability gets very low, will it permanently affect your weapon/equip stats? Or does something happen only when the weapon breaks?

Just wondering if I can safely bring the durability to 1 before going back to town. Thanks.

If your durability goes to 0, you can't use the weapon until it is repaired. That's all.
