Killing without becoming murderer?

Yesterday at the part between the bridge and guildstore in hotan(crossroads like thing) there was this low lvl guy and he kept being killed by higher lvls. none of them were wearing cape or had murder status. Then that low lvl guy attacked some person who passed by on his horse and killed the horse without becoming murder status. He then got killed by the guy and just got up again. Can anyone explain me how they did this? I didn't touch em cuz I'm sure if I would try I would be the one that would get murder status or die :s

GW and the guy was under 10 I guess?

He was over 20 atleast cuz that yellow icon before his name was gone and I think he was using a 5 D glaive too. Also it can't be guild war since the guy he first attacked was from another guild than the one he attacked later. Come to think of it, he didn't even belong to a guild.
