You get this error because Joymax is not good at programming.

Its unfixable, I've been playing for ~3 years, its been around a long time.

I use to freeze every time i went to town, or i use to get the ??? error a lot. So what i did is the following ( screenshots included ) and it solved my problems. Although I typed this all myself I got the info from the technical help section, where you should of gone first.

First of all to fix those pesky dc errors, we do the following. Go into the silkroad folder in the program files, then for each of the four .exe's right click and go to properties. Whilst in properties go to compatibility, and change the compatibility mode to windows 98/me.



Now do this for each of the four .exe’s They are labeled sro_client, replacer, silkroad and SilkErrSender

Now that should hopefully fix the ??? errors, though i chose to do this next step as well as it fixes problems where my computer just freezes when in town. Note the fact that this must be done every time you load up your client. So its best to do it at the character selection screen, as theres no point doing it if your client closes when you fail to log in on the first attempt.

Now when your client is all nice and loaded up, hit the windows key and proceed to use the crtl alt del combination. When at this screen, right click on the sro_client and click on go to process.



Now from here, right click on sro_client.exe, then go to priority, then set it to high as opposed to normal



Now if you have a dual core computer, like myself, you can also set the affinity so it runs off one as opposed to 2. I don’t know the logic behind it, but it fixed my problem. So now once again right click on the sro_client exe and go to Set Affinity, it should be right below the set priority option. From here, click the boxes so just the 1st cpu is clicked.



Now you must do this each and every time you open the client, but it has been a perfect solution for me. I hope it works for you too.

p.s If theres any mistakes someone please say so and ill fix them. Im very tired so i did this without paying too much attention >.<

Affinity issue has been fixed since long ago.... where have you been =p

??? error comes up when ur computer is getting stressed or when the RAM is filling up (a lot of teleports ^^)

& Plz stop posting, "it is fixable"; cause it isn't
Besides, the affinity issue didn't cause ??? error; it caused the screen to freeze AND it's been fixed for quite some time

RAM my ass, it is a processing problem which affects computers often with multiple CPUs.

I have 6 gigs of ram and i get it from time to time. Ram is not the issue.
