**On a serious note anyone have any idea why these bots have been standing there for 2 days and havent movied? lol

Sometimes bot traps glitch the bots like that. o_O They end up just buffing and standing there.

@Topic Maker
your sig made me giggle.

And it's prolly a obstacle glitch that joymax made for bots. Therefore they wont have to do bot hunts
to find bots. They can just go to the glitched spot.

but that's just my theory, it could be true tho

Got the same thing in Xian, but there was a bot trap outside of dw. And hotan.

Hey, be glad that they are bugged and stay in town instead of doing what they are meant to do.

why do bots have such messed up names? dont botters want a capped character with a real name rather than "kjgdge"?

Also, if there are so many botters, how come I've never seen a "jksaiew" playing as capped? All the capped people I met had real names, whether they botted or not

they arent real botters...they are goldbotters..nothing more nothing less they are bound to get banned anyways somehwhere along the road...and also... its easier to just slap the keyboard and get jsfksffsf...then try to think of a unique name noone has picked...

It happens even when there aren't any gold bot traps; it's the gold bots turning in their gold to a main gold storage char.

That's not a bad idea. Bots generally follow the exact same path as each other out of town. Throw up an invisible boulder or tree and let the bots pile up humping the air. Very easy to spot them then.

They wouldn't need an invisible obstacle though, just monitor the database for characters that consistently run over the same grid coordinates.

Shhh, that sounds like logic in them thar hills...or at least better than monitoring packets to see if someone is using a bot!

haha yeah I've suggested that solution many times before. Server side checks for various "suspicious" behavior. If a player does something "strange" like pass over the exact same location as the past 20 characters did (just as an example), flag him "suspicious". Get enough flags, BANHAMMER. :-D

When u say this ur talking about players flagging players? Or ? Also GM is understaffed right now so they dont have time to investigate all the "flaggings" in a timely manner at least. Maybe in the future. For now im happy as long as they ban the goldbots :D

A: Tracing bots is an easy and lazy way to get to your grinding spot.
B: If it did come to this, it wouldn't take much for bots to start randomizing their movements a bit.

No, I wouldn't have players flag players. The server would have scripts that monitor activities in the database. There wouldn't have to even be a GM reviewing the "flaggings". The server can watch specific points on the map, like the "bot waypoints" that people set bot traps on. If a character crosses that point, he gets flagged each time. If the server sees 10+ characters on exactly the same coordinate location (pile of gold bots at the pot NPC), they are all flagged.

All automated. Once the flags reach a certain number, they are included on the next ban list. Perhaps a GM could review the final list, but that may not be necessary.

Maybe include coding to remove flags after a certain time frame to avoid a ban for mistaken flags.

A: If you trace a bot, it's your own fault for appearing "suspicious".
B: Even randomized movements would use a similar set of coordinate locations, or at least the same patterns. If nothing else, the bots are constantly stopping, running, stopping, running. Patterns like that should be easily identifiable.

Doesn't matter, if your system has a chance of banning a legit it isn't fool proof and thus has no place in the game.

I have to agree with faint. In your plan, "suspicous" is too broad. Needs fine tuning but regardless JM coders too lazy xD

Well any system that is put in place will have a chance of banning a legit. I wouldn't mind having an occasional ban on my own iSRO account as long as I have the ability to (fairly easily) dispute the ban with Joymax to get my account back in good standing.

Yes, the term "suspicious" is a bit broad, but it's just an identifier for a character that is acting like a bot. You and I can sit in Hotan, or out in the fields with the bunwangs and identify characters that we "suspect" of botting based on the actions the perform. We might mistakenly identify a legit. A server-sided script can do the same thing, and can mistakenly identify a legit.

That's why I suggested multiple "flaggings" so the character isn't banned on the first "suspicious" activity, and allow the "flaggings" counter to be reset after a time period to help avoid legits being banned because they might occasionally accidentally act "suspicious".

The server might see me accidentally hump the side of the bridge to Hotan guild storage because I tried to use a skill on someone on the ground. I'd get flagged, but since I don't continue to do that over and over through time, the flags go away.

Maybe add another layer. Get too many flags, temp-ban of 3 days or something. Get temp-banned too many times, perma-ban... of course with the ability to dispute the ban with Joymax.

There is one gigantic hole in all of your plan: JM lack of customer service, a sad but true story :( Although it seems like they are trying to fix that

Well that is very true. Customer service would be needed. I attempted to account for that by saying we would need a (fairly easy) way to dispute the banning of your legit account if that happened. :P They're not there yet, but (hopefully) they are working on it.

Or you could just put a random password generator to leave town and after 3 incorrect tries, disconnected.

Sure it would be a little annoying, and sure the people who attack people outside of town then run back in would be flustered.

But tell me how bots would get through that? Oh yeah they wouldn't.

The bots would get around that the same way they get around the image code verification.

If they popped up a random password generator, they would have to somehow tell us what password to enter. The bots would get that same information.
