When you sp gap in exp share party, others get less exp?

My friend is trying to convince me that, when you have a big sp gap (4 or above), in party grinding everyone in your party gets less exp than they would have if you got no gap. In other words, the whole party is leveling slower from your sp gap, damage output aside.

I always thought that players just get their share of exp and sp depending on their personal gap. What he said doesn't make sense to me, since if it is true tactically you can screw the whole party over by make a 9 gap chinese character (no one can even tell you are gapping from your armor)so everyone levels slow.

What do you guys think? It is true of false?

it's false. by his reasoning, whoever doesn't have a GT also fks the party over.

when u kill the mob, the mob's original exp (w/o any special multipliers from GT and mastery gap) gets divided evenly among the members. the divided exp for each then takes into account GT and mastery gaps for each individual member.

the xp is calculated in 2 parts in party form. Firstly the xp and sp is worked out as if everyone has 0 gap in the party. than it clauclates what xp and sp your char will recieve depending on your gap and bonuses. so no it doesnt effect others if you gap, your friend is wrong.

this is how it works.
8/8 party you will get 1/8 of the party mob. then depending on if you have a gap so much will be xp and so much will be sp.

so it dont matter what lvl gap any of the party has or the gap you have you still get a = amount.
