I went on SRO (blegh) to visit a friend on venus. Told him i wanted to buy 100gold, he told me i had to pay 10gold.

we traded, and now he's poor.

Yall do know that most of the people who claim to be legit because they dont bot, are the ones who secretly buy gold. Gold prices from gold selling companies are cheapest where the most people buy gold.

If less people are buying it, the prices will raise up. Venus isnt the lowest by far(it is cheap though). /Neptune/Mars/Hercules/Troy/Tibet/Posiedon/Venus and a couple others are about in the same price category. Mercury/Saturn/Pluto are way cheaper than even Venus. So your assumption that more legits are where the gold prices is cheaper is off. Unless you are saying those three servers have more legits than Venus.(to nightbloom)

And to Topic starter.. Venus is the same as any other server. You have bots, and you have legits.

I just love how there's near 1500 free spots in Venus almost all the time....

Actually supply and demand DOES work that way. Gold companies have supply and public demands it. As demand increases so does supply decrease. The opposite is true as well. (Think clearance sales) When demand becomes greater than supply can keep up with, in order to keep a reasonable supply, the price increases to slow consumption and optimize profit until equilibrium is once more reached.

That's pretty basic economics. If the price is very low, it means that there is a greater supply and less demand. While this doesnt necessarily follow that there are less gold buyers/legits it certainly does point in that direction. The comparison between Hera and Venus is more fair because they opened close together. Venus has less gold sold than its two neighbors, which is telling.

And as usual Death, if I were to say the sky is blue, you would find some way to argue the point. LOL I dont normally consider your objections to be worth correcting but this time, you were so off in left field, I couldnt help it.

PLEASE learn basic economics before stating such a thing, when the demand is low you lower your prices to increase demand, once the demand is high you can afford asking high prices and still keep your buyers.

Night, thanks for responding. You dont see the constant stream of people weekly at the exchange points of gold sellers. Do you? Did you know 1 company does its business through sama? How about the 2 that do business is DW? There are 4 that sell in Jangan, 2 different locations to be exact. Believe me, venus has its share of gold buyers. Im assuming most use alts. After seeing your post I asked one such company which server has the most gold bought for this month... ta da.. Mercury. the one with the lowest prices. anyways yall have a good day.

As demand drops, prices do not go down. If there is low demand, there is going to be high prices. Period.

Good friends, silk items and all...I'll never find such a great group of friends on another server. (Yeah yeah..I could go to SD or w/ ever but that would still be different ;D ).

I did not mention supply, because neither did the other guy. He made the assumption that because there's low demand for gold in Venus that the prices are cheap. That's not how it works.

Basically he's got things backwards. If prices are low, this indicates high demand and low supply. (This make sense: you want more of a cheap thing, but sellers don't want to sell a lot of cheap things--they rather sell expensive things). If prices are high, this means demand is low and supply is high. (This makes sense: people don't want to buy things too expensive, but sellers like to sell things worth a lot.)

Think, if you could buy 100 million gold for $1, A LOT of people are going to like that deal. But the gold companies do not like that deal, and they would have a hard time supplying that. The solution? Increase price. This will lessen demand and increase supply, ceteris paribus.

dom, I know the basics of economics. What I am saying is nightbloom is wrong. Venus has a shitload of gold buyers. Just like every server. Sorry, but the gold companies dont get economics either I guess. But the numbers dont lie. Some of the highest selling is going on in mercury/pluto/saturn/and some of the other servers I named. So following that lead one would come to the conclusion that venus is right there with them, seeing as how the prices are around the same. Thats all.

It's important to distinguish between a change in quantity demanded from a shift in the demand curve. Basically, we're going to have make certain assumptions about the elasticity of supply (from the gold companies and their botters). I don't think any of us know the elasticity for these companies. So, really, what would be necessary is a list of prices on each server for the same amount of gold (usually 100m).

The following comes from a popular gold buying Web site. The price for 100m gold:
Pluto $18.99
Saturn 18.99
Mercury $19.13
Mars $20.67
Venus $20.80
Aege $30.32
Babel $30.81
Xian $34.73
Hera $34.95

If we do assume there is no change in the supply curve, Hera has probably the highest gold buying population and Pluto the least. Does this sound reasonable?

so far uber makes the most sense, you cant just say supply and demand. That relationship is more complicated than you think it is. If its that simple to understand then i guess the economy will never become unstable or overstable.

Babel is the least bot infested, most legit server out of all of them.
**** venus, we only got 1 bot banned last inspection, 0 before that, and a record high 16 two months ago.
