"A guild is nothing without its members" syl.
A good guild leader is one who has dedication, vision, and know how in running the basics of a guild. A great guild leader also knows how to have fun doing it.

To make a guild it first takes 500k, then 5mil, then 9mil, then 15 mil and then 21 mil in gold.
I'd have to quote Sylhana on his wise words for this one.

I believe a good leader needs to have a strong sense of comradery, enjoy the game and on top of all know how to have fun.

Well in my guild our leader is always on and chats with us. He's help with some plvl, but not to much cause he thinks ppl shouldn't be lazy because beofer euro we didn't have that luxury. Our orignal leader leaves our guild for fortress war and joins with our union leaders guild. All high lvls in our guild do. 1 high lvl stays that he trusts. Then when he comes backs he returns to leader.
A guild isn't really good without it's members. It's hard to start a guild on an old server though because all of the high lvls are already in guilds. and not many make new chars on the old ones anymore.

Im a guildmaster myself and in my eyes a GM must be:
- Active
- Able to solve conflicts
- Never takes one side of a conflict without hearing the other side of the story
- Arranges random events, could be as simple as a shared party
- Be the first one guildies talk to when having a problem
- Ofcourse a guildmaster is nothing without his guildies
- Is someone who doesn't get drunk often and in a crazy mood ban all guildies and disband the guild
- Is able to take decisions and doesn't doubt - Example banning inactives
- Never takes decisions without asking guildies (In my guild there is a group of people which you could call sub-guildmasters and help me in decisions)

My entire SRO career I have led the guilds I have been in. From _Rebellion_ in my teens and to my forties, to Impulse until lvl 80, and finally, I have had the pleasure of running the oldest, most active guild on Alps to date, BlacK_MaMbaS for nearly a year now, throughout that entire time we remained active and a very high number of good people with knowledge and skill. And I will even boast that we are easily in the top 5 strongest, if not the top three or top two.
Being a leader takes dedication. You need to know your members, deal with their problems, and other people's problems. Your members expect you to be intelligent and well versed in the game. You need to be willing to spend the time to help people, deal with their problems, in game and personal, you need to be wiling to help that low level noob in your guild because one day, they will become a great friend, and even a high lvl

. You have to have a tolerance for fights, bickering, stupidity, and need to know how to separate your life and your gaming experience to some extent. There is also politics involved. Lots of politics. You have to, for lack of a better phrase, bullshit your way through some stuff. Have to keep relations strong with people outside your guild. Punishment needs to be dealt with firmly and swift. You are your members best friends and also their biggest critic. Push them to be better and to have the most fun possible, that is after all the point of a game.
Maintaining leadership of one of the best guilds on alps is not easy. Its like a family even. Every day we talk about our lives, whats going on. We know a lot about each other and talk for hours in team speak, even if we are not logged onto the game.

I think that sums it all up =) What I don't have is the gold, the right level (I don't many people would like to join a guild when the person isn't lvl 80) and perhaps a lot of time. Thanks all for your help

The most important requirement is mutual respect among members and the leader(s). I've been in Phoenix guild for years now and I still talk to most of the past and present members. We left the guild to merge with another guild called BloodRiteZ and formed BloodPhoenix. Unfortunately, it ended up failing after 6-7 months due to the leader's incompetence, hypocrisy, arrogance, failure to meet the members' demands and god-complex mentality.
It's also a good idea to have like-minded members to avoid conflict due to minor things such as childish rants or small disagreements. And you need active members and an active leader, of course.
A leader is not defined by his or her level and items. It's really not an easy job. It takes a lot of patience

Patience I often don't have. So I ended up giving up my leader status after governing guilds since I started playing MMORPGs 8 years ago.
(Phoenix Guild currently recruiting)
