maybe SRF should run a private server

hey guys i have a bright idea! seeing as JM dosnt realy give a rat's @ss about bots and nothing is realy gona ever happen, why dosnt SRF figure out how to get some private servers, mods could be GM's and they would actualy care about bots and ban them. cause trying to fight a war against bots is completly futile if the GM's dont care, thats just my two cents, but if SRF was to get a hold of a private server then they could create a truely legit enviorment, no player botters, no gold botters, no spamers, no gold buying. maybe im just crazy...

We all wish, but that would require money, and probably result in a lawsuit.

true, but i bet that if SRF was to start fundraising it would get enough money, and as for the lawsuit i doubt it, the chinese p servers havent gotten any flak from Joymax

Do you really think we could afford that? Sure i myself would be willing to contribute money per month towards it.. but im sure there aren't many people willing to do the same thing. Without money it wont succeed. Simple as that.
And you say a fund raiser? Do you realize how much it will actually cost to set up a permanent server for everyone? a god dam lot. Maybe if there was in game advertisement or advertisement as the exe was loading up it could bring in a bit of revenue, but its still far fetched.

well this supposedly one of the biggest gaming forums on the net so some adverisements could make money, and im sure there are plenty of people who would rather not waste their money on premiums and instead contribute to a bot free, gold buying free, totaly legit server

Unless you plan on writing the code for that server yourself (which would take quite a bit of time I wager), you would be looking for an interesting lawsuit for copyright infringement. I'm not sure exactly where the code comes from for the other private servers.

many of us cant even buy silk for the normal game, what makes you think we can afford donations towards a private server? Not to mention the risks, difficulty, and setting everything up. It's just not worth the time and money
at this point, the cons out weigh the pros

Most people that spent money on a game want something in return that helps them in the game. Thats why the Chinese private server has a lot of people buying silk or getting sosun out of it.

Ok so this is pretty much pointless in suggesting. For one there is the Sremu. And second MorningDew has stated just recently that any private servers are illegal and will be dealt with swiftly if discovered.

how can be so stupid ? sro is under copyright status, its not freeware, you need to have license before starting doing something, without it you can be sued with breaking joymax license policy

Like everyone said...there'd be legal and cost issues. It wouldn't be worth it.

Next you want to lecture the community, make sure you know your homework.
Like that thread mentioned, SRF
does allow the discussion of private servers, as long as there are no links posted to download any private server files connected with the recent CSRO clone, since that server is owned and operated by a gold- and botselling company. And like everyone already knows, botting, goldbuying and anything related to that is something SRF does
not stand for.

then let's lock this one before someone posts links.
isn't that what you always say?

this isn't a thread pertaining to the discussion of cpsro, so there should be no reason to post links to said server.

I do think it's a fine idea. Im particularly waiting for a private server that will open probably in a couple of months, and Im very excited about it. And if you guys think that Joymax will really do something, like "sue" or so, think again... they dont sue gold companies or bot companies, why would they care to sue a private server? It's just too much work. And once a lot of places start opening private servers, it'll spread like fire, and JM won't be able to sue all of them. Ragnarok and many other games have private servers, and often they are much better than the original in overall aspects.
I think private is the way to go.

Pservers are not illegal for the Nth time, IF they do not use JM code, but reverse engineer it.
Remember the AMD 486 processor? Yes,
reverse-engineered from Intel. It is a valid process. AMD also reverse-engineered the 8080 processor, Intel reverse-engineered from the x86-64 instructions used by AMD.
Morningdew can talk all he/she wants, Joymax has not done much to the Chinese pserver. If Joymax were to actually act against that company...it might reinforce that statement.

To be honest, I dont think JM would take any legal action.
WoW is a bigger game, and a more vast community and they still do not shut down private servers. I highly doubt JM would considering ISRO isnt their main game. To this date there has only been maybe 2 games that have taken action to private servers.
That was Everquest, they had contacted the owner of a private server called Winters Roar because he had almost 400 people on the server at all times of the day. All he had to do, was make a new website and create his own launcher and his server was LEGALLY running again.

If the code is indeed reverse engineered, then it should be legal in most countries. That may not stop Joymax from filing a lawsuit, but they haven't exactly been active in that area so far.
