Joymax is actually going to ban bots??

Okay, so I just read that they are going to do a supposedly massive bot punishment from request of their real players so wow this is possibly going to be awesome if they actually follow through with it!

Like 10 "asdfg" named goldbot from every server, that aren't active used anymore.
Or they create empty fake accounts to ban, they won't risk to lose..

Silkroad Online has prepared a massive bot punishment in order to satisfy the request of our users.
Please understand that this preparation has took a long time because we have increased the accuracy of blocking massive number of bots without harming good intentioned players.
We will proceed the punishment as soon as the preparation is complete.
In order to promote clean gaming environment, we ask our users not to use bots, as using bots will block the user's account permanently.
We will announce further information regarding the date of punishment when it's ready.
Thank you.
I suppose after a notice like that they're going to have to provide some list, but i wouldn't get my hopes up. I agree with sama98b, the list will either be populated with fake accounts or those that are no longer being used. Just like the bot lists back in late 2006, filled with fake names or of accounts that never even got banned.

since pk2 is only visable from your computer and doesnt change what the server sees from you. I dont see how they can realisticly ban for pk2 editing. As for this bot ban I wont hold my breath till I can read the names, if I dont see some high lvl famous bots that have been around FOREVER, I am going to lose the last shard of respect I have for this damn company. >.>

I can just imagine the flood of threads the SRF mod team will have to deal with if Joymax bans no-dc, pk2, and other modified client (non-bot) users!

They do have every right to do so. A modification doesn't necessarily have to harm the game to result in a ban. If they don't want you screwing with the client, they can ban. No need for a "grey area" as far as what modifications are allowed and not allowed. They can simply say, don't mess with it, or ban.

What Joymax is going to do is the following:
-They ban like 1000 gold bots total, they know the servers will be filled up with them the day after anyway.
-Joymax will not ban player bots because they get 25% per bot(so I heard)(or however they calculate it)

Well regardless of how this 'bot list' turns out, Joymax will ultimately use this opportunity to display the direction they are going to take with this game, in regards to bots.
It could be a final shot at redemption, or an indirect way of notifying the SRO community that botting is condoned.
I do believe though that this bot ban announcement by Joymax was merely announced to appease the increasing number of disgruntled players. Oh well it's their fault for allowing their community to get so far as to be divided into anti-bot, pro-bot and neutral.

@ those with multi-client/no-dc/ and pk edit. I am in that category myself.
I would rather they just ban everyone with modified clients and have them start over if it meant a bot free game.
But i doubt they actually succeed.

They should concentrate on banning *Gold Bots* really, cause they are one of the main reasons why players started to bot in the first place.

Do you know how many NICE and awesome people and friends use a no-dc client just because they can't afford 20 US$ on a game? Many.

I don't buy silk, I can't buy silk, I don't use a no-dc client. The reason being, these clients are found in the same places you find bots, when clicking a link to filefront, rapidshar, etc to download one of these clients there is a link to a bot below it, I don't know about you but temptation, even curiosity, could take over and make me click the link.

That is the same exact argument that botters use. "I have a real life, I dont have time to play by hand, Im really a good person, I just cheat because I HAVE to." You are just saying it about no dc client users instead. Still cheating, even if you dont want it to be.
There is absolutely nothing illegal about a private server. Reverse engineering is protected by US law. The coding belongs to the maker of the emu and isnt stolen directly from JM. The name "silkroad online" is the only thing that belongs to JM and we use it everyday in our forum headers and sigs. So if that is what makes it "less than 100% legit" than even SRF isnt.
Oh the item mall belongs to JM too and anyone who uses the item mall in their private server for profit is also breaking the law.

no dc client:

- cheat for there spot on the server

im sorry? is it ok to cheat just because your friends do it and you dont want them to be banned? i know friends left behind on xian that use it. wont hurt me 1 bit if they get banned. if your nice and awesome friends cant take the heat, give them this link:

The fact that they'll never press legal charges against the project doesn't make it less illegal. Maybe from a programming point of view the servers are completely legal.
However in order to comply with JM EULA, which clearly states that the client must not be edited in any form, a differently engined server (which you claim you have) should be used, but so far I haven't seen any open sources around.
Fly, NB, yes I know you'd get your mums banned for saying " mather fak JM I use no-dc client!" but not all of us are so fked up. For me they are people first and then botters.

The client isnt altered. You never played a private server before? The only thing different on your end is the hosts file and who you connect to.

forgive me, but you are weak then. people dont bot unless they want to. you have the ability to make decisions, you cant blame circumstances such as that for being draw out by your own desires. you cant be tempted by something yo dont want in the first place.
