Is their anyway to save MMORPG's?

Ok, every free MMORPG that I have checked has a gold bot problem..Even games like GUild Wars and WoW have gold selling bots and crap like that...SO really is their anyway that MMORPG's can get rid of these damn gold botting companies? I mean the p2p games have less of a bot problem than f2p but still I mean I always wanted to play MMORPG's since I think the idea is fun but with the bots it just ruins the chance :/

shadowbane has no gold bot or any other bots AT ALL, is free, and is the best MMO I've ever played.

I don't think so, gold botting companies are totally selfish, they don't realise that they are killing the game, and their numbers increase all the time, in 10-25 years MMORPG's will be history.

If things stay the same that they are right now I am confident "free" MMORPG's won't exist in the next few years..

or find a way to make the game less dependent on a gold-based economy.

gold companies are the same like all companies. the public has to suffer in one or another way so they can make their product.

Theres two simple ways to kill goldbot companies. First, is to ban them. This costs the company money, and most companies are greedier then the goldbot companies. (example: Joymax) Second way is to make it so the players can kill the goldbots. This way, the company doesnt have to do anything, and if they players want a game without goldbots, its their choice.

If you want an example of a company that got rid of the goldbot problem(yes, also an MMORPG) you should probably look at Jagex. It has killed all goldbots, they barely had a loss of money, but had lost a couple of thousand members. They solved it by releasing new skills and interesting features, so yes, there is a way to save MMORPGS.

Hunt down all the gold bot companies, actual location thrash their gear and shot everyone invovled, people would be too scared to start again.

All mmorpg's have gold bots. Whether they have them now or not they will have them eventually. It won't be the reason any of the games ever shutdown though. It is a problem but not a big enough one to actually stop massive amounts of people form playing.

I once heard a suggestion, like...
After 3 hours of grinding, gold drop and xp rate will decrease with 50%..
After 5 hours of grinding, gold wont drop anymore, then next day, starts over again, and when u've grinded for 5 hours, youre xp bar turn Grey.
Someone said kSro has this, is that true?

Well, they'd get alot less gold, and the gold company doesnt wanna run the goldbots 24/7 when they get gold for like 5 hours..
But they'd probably find a way xD
Like, log in with new ones after 5 hours T_T

A few ways.
1st of all make a game where not much gold is acquired by killing mobs, or make earning gold fun. Take ff11 for an example. The game is run by a player driven economy, you will not gain much gold by simply going out and killing mobs. To get gold you need to do other things, such as gold smithing, buy / re sell, make potions, party with a group of people and do raids.. etc
Getting this gold can be fun, making people want to do it.
Way number 2, active gms. P2P games can afford to chuck a few gm's in game, ban any gold bots, ban via ip address, make accounts only acquirable by buying the game outright ( such as ff11 for an example, buy the game cd and u get an account as far as my knowledge knows ).
Simply, its easy to do. Though in a free mmo, it doesn't happen often. The best example really is ff11, if it wasn't so slow i would actually play it.
In the next 20 years, gaming and new firewalls will only enhance the mmo experience. Mmo's are the wave of the future.

elixir of youth
as you play your char ages. when he reaches age of 80 he can die with every new year, his death is real and he cant be played again.ageing proces is calculated only by time u hunt mobs so u can stall and idle without worries.
only way to save yourself is misterious elixir of youth. witch reverse your age by 5 years.
elixirs can be obtained very easy by compliting simple yet long distanced quests.
example.
kill 10 manygans and 20 grasep to recive elixir of youth.quests shoud be as simple as that.
no real player will lose therir char this way.
but all goldbits will DIE by the time they reach donwhang coz they cant complete any of those quests.
so ther u go simple as that.

well this idea is unique and i don't think gold companies will actually do the quest, so it might work.

I don't consider it a problem. Just in isro it's out of control, too many company doing it in a big scale.
If it's not gold based but trading/items than they will sell that for real world money.

Gold companies would diminish only if people wont buy gold, and that's it. u cant ban them. cause they will come again, in bigger numbers. for every defence built by a human there's a hack. and people in the gold companies are getting paid to hack those, so trust them they'll succeed.

I wonder if any here understands that gold bots aren't ever going to leave. I know, I'm a legit player who hates goldbots my self, but think of it from a company's prespective. The chance that a protest is really going to get rid of EVERY player from the game is slim to zero, and by removing gold bots (especailly from Silkroad) they'd be losing thousands if not more money daily. I wish they were gone, but it wont ever happen.

I haven't seen a single bot or bot like character in WoW since I switched. You should come to WoW, we have cookies.

1- p2p. Kills just about all goldbots, especially when the cost to play is greater than the gold gathered/items collected resale value.
2 - don't really think there is much of a solution in f2p. You can greatly reduce goldbots if you have good security measures and a staff that supports the game fully and actively works to ban bots and make it harder for them to log in and grind. It all starts from the top end of management for the changes needed in an f2p game, and if the top brass aren't behind it, changes won't happen.
I'm pretty sure that the best botspotters are the ones that are playing the game, so they (game companies) could enlist the support of volunteers to aid with the ID and banning of bots...
Best way - if no one bought gold, the companies would give up trying to bot up their gold inventories. When someone does buy gold, trace the gold transfers, and ban both parties. Other games utilize this and it works well. Then again, this goes back to the point about a company CARING for their game.
