Question about ''Third party programs''

Why exactly are they illegal ?
Editing files such as PK2 editing is against the ToS, and signing up for cSRO or kSRO can get you banned.. so I'm assuming joymax doesn't like that much either - yet you support it here?
Anyway.. third party programs, I don't see how using a noDc client is a bad thing.
You only have to launch the client once, instead of re-launching every time you get ''cannot connect due to server traffic''
lol.
Multiclient? I know that you can (or use to) use VMware and doing a lot of other things... and people didn't seem to have a problem with that
Then someone decided to make a program allowing you to launch two clients without going through all the hassle of VMware, and people freaked

Why?

imo...
any and all infractions of the Joymax TOS on this forum should be bannable.
pk2 editing is clearly against the TOS. It ruins the game for us who love the suspense of waiting over a year to see the next level gears and what not.
As is any 3rd party software, bot, no dc or what ever.
But I dont make the rules here, nor do I want to enforce them.
It's clearly hipocritical on how some things are run here and there..

Not really. Some of the rules that JM enforces themselves are stupid. This community, and those that were chosen to moderate "us," are not affiliated with JM and thus the rules set here have nothing to do with those set by JM. We share some in common, but that's it.

it doesnt matter. if they changed theyre policy on this matter there wouldnt be mods to ban everyone else. for some reason they can rummage through the wrongs and determine which one they think are alright, then use the excuse that "it doesnt hurt anyone else," or "its client side." so basically they are no differnt than the botters who hide behind theyre excuses.

3rd party programs are not included in the Joymax ToS.

. Users found to be using or distributing illegal programs may be subject to restrictions of their account or have their account deleted. In particular cases, the user may be subject to investigation by the proper authorities.

Is illegal actually defined by the TOS? That's where the lovely loop hole would be. Besides ofcourse "may be."

Pk2 editing is simply done at your own risk, it does not involve running a 3rd party program, but simply changing a line of text, #'s or symbols or whatever that mumbo jumbo is in the pk2 files (lol haven't done it myself so not sure what it is).
But other 3rd party programs such as softmod, no-dc clients, multi-clients etc.. often carry viruses or key loggers. These programs that seem to make the game more convenient to play, often are the cause of players getting hacked or scammed. I believe SRF simply wants to protect its users and possibly not support the bot creators who also make these programs.

Softmod is a bot. And you are supposed to scan files before you use them or have a good virus protection.

8. User must read regularly and be familiar with the notices posted through the Web site.
9. User shall not complain of problems that arise due to use of other software not developed by the Company.
This is taken directly from JoyMax T.O.S... I found #9 to be intresting and didnt really find anything that says botting is illegal except maybe #6... Just food for thought

Pretty sure Softmod is just a crack for a bot, not a bot itself.. at least I think so!
Anyway.. there's countless people using multiclient and noDc to login, so that's not the reason why it isn't allowed.. there's lots of clean ones out there

Some keyloggers are found by anti-virus programs, but in the case of modified clients and bots, keylogging is not a virus but rather an intended part of the program that the bot creator has placed in the software. Scanning it will not find the keylogging.
This is why so many people who use modified clients (bots, multi-clients, etc) find their account hacked not long after they have installed the new software.
