Portable Silkroad Online?

Hey guys i just thought of somthing that would be really cool if its even possible.

Buy a 4 GB USB stick and copy your silkroad folder onto it which is about 2.2 GB.

Then can you take it to any computer at school or work and play it from the USB drive without ever having to install it on the computer?

Yes it is possible, but only if the school computer can run it and you have sufficient administrator rights.

Basically a memory stick that can fit a complete client which can be shoved into any usb port and will magically run the game. Not very feasible :P

What kinda of rights would you need? Your not installing or downloading anything. I looked at staples tonight and all i saw was 1,2 or 4 GB drives. I guess they dont make 3 GB.

Well schools have firewalls which prevent you from downloading certain things or running other things also

ok well i guess you all should try it and see how it goes. If I decide to buy a stick that big, Ill try it at my internet cafe at college. Wouldnt it just be funny to be sitting in the back of the computer lab playing silkroad instead of doing homework, or somthing to do while killing time waiting for the next class to start?

I've tried it with Maplestory and I assume this would apply to most games.
THis would be very impractical for many reasons.
1) Running anything off of a usb flash drive is SLOW. considering its SRO, it will be even slower.
2) For high schools, you have to have administrator rights to run certain things. Gameguard is one of those things which is (was) blocked when I tried at school.
Lots of other reasons why.
If you're in college, just bring a labtop. Else its really not worth it to risk losing a 2+Gb flash drive with SRO on it simply for an hour of class. Also, the teacher has to be pretty oblivious to not notice this.

ok i just tried it with runescape, the client version. and apperantly. it works fine. but very slow as that other guy said, as i and the other guy imagined, this would make sro run EXTREMELY slow, so unless all your gonna do is stall, then its not worht it

i am CERTAIN your teacher would notice your hard drive connected to your computer. its probably best to secretly connect the usb on the back of the computer, making it harder to notice

mmhmm but if you do play at school and find a way around the firewalls.

I play cs 1.6 at school all the time from usb.

Only thing is with sro it needs to read all 2 gb of the data on the flash drive. Most flash drives read at a slow rate of 40mb\s. Will take years to load. Thats why with Cs 1.6, I copy the full file onto desktop then play lag free. With copy and paste I had a full computer lab of cs running a lan party.
School is so much fun.

I am surprised that works...I would have guessed you need some files in the registry but I guess with the self updaters those files will get installed? I also didn't think it would modify the host file to allow you to connect to the sro folder... I guess updater would do that too. Quite surprised it actually works.
