If you plan to use it for solo, just Moving March and Noise.
If you plan to use it for a back-up bard in a party, take Moving March, Noise, Mana Cycle and Guard Tambour at least. Throw in maybe Dance of Magic if you feel like it. (and can get a another bard)

Ok well for mage i know ill need to have 2 elements at the very least. So for EG if i go Fire/Cold and Bard as sub, at higher lvls will i still be able to max out the other 2 elements or just 1?

you need all 4 elements as a wizard, leaving any of the 4 out will extremely hinder you.

Not really, unless they plan on pvp/job. But if they wan't to pvp/job they will need em.

I have played a wizard before. If you ever plan on actually PLAYING the wizard, especially in a party/propperly, you need all 4 elements. Each has its own helping factor. Earth is a strong AOE, cold freezes (helpful when your warrior is retarded,) Light has massive knockback, another helpful tool in survival of yourself and any other weak player (cleric, dd/xx rogue, did I mention yourself) and fire is just pwnage. You need all 4 so you can use one and move to the next, one right after the other. You are a pure powerhouse of damage. Don’t sell yourself short or you will fail miserably. All 4 elements are part of your roll as a party member.

Get all 4 or just don’t bother wasting time, seriously.

( I know its not my place to tell you what to do, but with nor parties around and a crippled build, you will give up on your wiz quick.)

+1, that what I was getting to, but wanted to hear what their reasoning was for not needing all 4, lightning and earth have as much useful skills as cold and fire, so you cant say that they're not needed.

A wizard should be able to hold his ground with only 2 elements, if not he/she needs more training. but if you have the extra sp then go ahead max everything, if not learn to use 2 elements.

Thats why there is a gap...you can't zero gap and get all four elements but with a 1 or 2 gap u can get everything you need. Parties don't want gimp wizards just like no one wants a cleric who only has individual heals and not party heals.

And why would you want to play this game without pvp/job/fw? Do you play starcraft and not attack the other players?

But will i have enough points to max all 4 and go for a sub class?
For what i stated above how much of a gap must i have to be comfortable at 80 or with a little extra added farming

2 gap should give you enough sp for your main class, and depending on which sub you pick 3-4 gap will be more then enough
