Just a random thought I've been having:

What would it be like to have an SRF Lottery? I know that we have quite a large community over here at SRF, and players from each and every server. This would just be an idea for willing people to make a bit of extra money - or for whatever reason we would buy Lottery tickets in real life.

As an example:
Someone responsible and trustworthy here at SRF will host the lottery - perhaps a Mod.
Entrance fee to the lottery is 5M. Once you give the 5M to the Lottery Host, he'll write your name down.
Say 15 people enter the SRF Lottery. We'll devise or figure out some sort of randomization system, and then get a winner from there. 15 people times 5M each is 75M. Winner walks away with say, 70M. 5M goes to the Host, because he has to work at it as well - collecting the money from people. A small SRO-job of sorts.
And so on and so forth.

Of course, people might be afraid of being scammed on accident. The biggest one I'm thinking about is that you'd give your money to the wrong person. That could be avoided if the host gives everyone his IGN, exactly, and PM's the person ON SRF where to meet him to give him the money (his entrance fee). You give your money to the host and only the host. If you get scammed then, it's your fault and your fault only. I think we could avoid a lot of problems that way.

Just a thought that I've been having. Entrance fee could be more or less, or whatever.

We'd start on a big server at first, such as Xian. If the idea catches on, we could of course, expand?

Just a lottery for the people who have a bit of extra money to burn off, and wouldn't mind taking a risk to hitting it rich.

That's why I said the Host should be a trustworthy person, such as a Mod or an Admin - someone we could rely on not to take the money and run.
And if you can't or won't trust them, then methinks you just shouldn't compete in the Lottery, hehe. Who else would you be able to trust more? :]

And like I said, just an idea I had. All the numbers are just made-up numbers, and could be debatable.

i'm always a big fan of community events.

+ if i lose 5mil i won't feel that bad. Its not really all that bad a risk. alternatively it could be lowered to like i dunno 500k and we can get lots of peeps to join

Just because someone is a mod how does that rule out the possibility that they wont take the money?

Like, i know i would trust a mod with their money, but just because they mod a srf forum it doesn't say that they are this almighty perfect figure who will do good. Who's to say here mods don't bot? Who's to say any of the mods here haven't scammed anyone before?

Im not pointing fingers here, but im just saying they aren't perfect just because they are a mod.

But i like the idea. If you do this in greece, ill definitely join.

I never said that they were "almighty perfect figures". The only reason why I suggested it be a Mod is that,

Who else on SRF can everybody mutually trust more than a Mod?
Mods stand to have a lot more to lose if they run off with the Lottery pot - their Modship, for one.
And most of them have shown and proved themselves to be trustworthy people.

And like I said, this is just a thought. :]

Personally, i would trust Syllana over anyone here. But you do have a point, mods do have a lot to loose. This idea could work well.. but i do see how the fear of the situation will stop a lot of people.

I guess starting with a small sum of 100k would be nice just as a test, then move onto bigger cash pools if it can be organized effectively.

they thing u would have to watch out for is people making multiple accs just to increase the chance of getting it ..
but thats pretty easy to over come... i think

u would haev to watch out for people trying to scam the MOD though.
people would get wind that the mod is holdnig 100mil + and would try over and over again to get his details ><

actually you can trust a mod.

can you imagine if a mod stole the money? how do you think the community on srf would feel about that? i don't think the mod would be a mod for long. I mean a community exists on trust with the mods being the role models <<< that is why they are mods


OOh i got an idea. Maybe we should do something like gambling. Get two players to PVP and you place your bets on the player to win. Then you divide out the winnings. I think that would almost be better since you can't "ALWAYS win big. I mean if a sun is going against like a +7....most will bet on SUn so outcome winnings will be small

but i guess that maybe too complicated for some mods...you gotta figure out the percentage pay out per amount bet and distribution among all those that bet...and even the person who pvp's earning for the win. it could be fun though

I'm in....i sure hope it will be more than a project in the near future....

IMO, here's how it should go...there should be 1 2 mods everybody would trust, who have chars on all servers(even low lvl )...SRF should announe the names of the lottery holders in a post...let's say today is alexander's turn...from 6-8 am everybody goes and gives the mod the fee(which should not be big, maybe like 100-200k, and receives a lottery number; i can make a program that puts the name in a database and fetches a specific number for it)...then , after the sign-ups are over, the program just makes a random ladder of the players, and the first 3 get like:
1st: 50%
2nd:30%
3rd : 10%
mod:10%
then, they are announced anc claim their prizes...simple as that
only trouble is we have to find alot of players to join the lottery so its really worth something...not a big deal winning 200k if you put 100 as a fee

That wouldn't matter. Everyone has to pay an entrance fee. If they want to buy multiple "tickets", or numbers, or whatever, then let them. It's just like the Lottery in real life: you can buy one ticket, for a slim-to-nothing chance, or you can buy 1000 tickets, for a much larger chance.

That's one of the reasons that I suggested using a little more gold. Collecting 200k from 100 people on each Server is just too tedious. Collecting 5M from 15 people on each Server is a lot less tedious, and the winnings are larger as well.

Anybody else have any thoughts?

Not specifically saying any of the mods here would, but I'm sure some people would be willing to trade their respect on an online forum for a much needed say 100 mil in game. Another question is how are you going to randomly pick the person. I can foresee a lot of problems with people complaining that it was unfair and switching numbers and bribing the people who choose the number ect ect

But I like the idea and I would join in.
