I've seen the thread about hotkey arrangements, but I'm wondering about hand position on keys for efficiency. In watching some of the PVP videos I see a variety of skillbar arrangements and I wonder how some people manage to move over so many keys so quickly.

I'm in the habit of playing games with WASD movement so I've set up my SRO skills with most used under the 1,2,3 keys and keep my hand resting with 3rd, 2nd, 1st fingers of left hand on those number keys. I stretch my left fingers to reach the other number keys and keep my right hand on the mouse at all times because I'm constantly changing the view around.

It's very basic and suits my needs for PVE. I haven't tried PVP yet as I'm still leveling. I also use the middle mouse slot for auto attack with the space bar set to it. Another habit from other games where the space bar is commonly the attack button. It's quick to tap it with my thumb. I don't like using the middle mouse button. I seem to have trouble double-clicking to target monsters quickly while single-click+space bar works better.

That might be a bad habit, I don't know...

I see a lot of people using the middle mouse slot for Phantom Walk. I don't have that yet, but it makes sense. Easy to use for fast moving while in the thick of battle. Plus the floating skill bar uses the space bar to toggle the number keys for it so it might be a good idea to get away from using it for auto attack.

And what about switching bars while fighting? Just move fast between the number and "F" keys with one hand?

I loled at the title. And yeah, it's just like typing, if you know where your numbers are, you should be able to get to them quickly. Same with the f keys.

I rather finger my mouse. More enjoyable.

I'm left handed and my right hand is retarded at functioning with mmos, so left hand = on hotkeys, right hand on mouse.

set skills F1-F4, 1-9, middle mouse button is actually set to R, so that's my phantom. i use all fingers on left hand except thumb, but i put the most used skills in 2-6, 1's for vigor.

Right Hand on mouse
Left hand as follows:

Index Finger on 5
Middle Finger on 2
Ring Finger on 1
If I need 3 and 4, I just scoot my index over from 5 to 4 and 2 to 3.

when i need 6->0 keys I generally tap my 2 key (which is imbue on all belts but F4, my buff belt) and then quickly shift my hand over with milddle finger on 7, rign finger on 6 and index finger on 8. 9 and 0 is a reach for index once im in that position.

However, sometimes when im in 1-5 and i need 0 in pvp situations (spear fan) i would just jump my hand over and press 0 and jump back to my neutral position.

The key to my method is to memorize my belts and know which skills is on which number. (Which I have done so for like a year XD)

my imbue is on my wheel, it seems everyone has phantom there...... but o well, i like it on my wheel because then it doesnt take up needed space on all my hotkey settings.

My fingers rest on 1,2,3,4 which are my main attacks. F1 is grinding with nukes, f2 is buffs, f3 is powerllving, and f4 is pvp.

The only problem is using the keys 8-0 because that requires my hand to actually move...and moving my hand is just too much work.

i just wanted to add. i hate the skilless button smashers. nothing is worse when watching a pvp video than looking into their skill bar to see its just some kid smashing his face on his keyboard in whatever way he feels like. If you cant figure out the game enough to time your skills right so you dont have to button smash to use skills...you need to get a little smarter.

Mine is:

Right hand on mouse.
F1: Trade, party, pots
F2: Knockdown's
F3: Combo's
F4: Buffs
S1: Pet Pots
S7: Frost Nova Wind
S8: Frost Nova Woods
S9: Iron Wall Shield
S10: Cold Wave
Left index on 4.
Left middle on 2.
Left ring on 1.
Left pinky on tab.
X: Sit
Everything else is default.

This is how I kept my bar on my old character:


I stuck a spare "bumped" key (like F or J) on 7 so I could easily rest my index finger there.

I like to have Phantom right there by my pinky because it's easier to move my camera, select a target and hit Phantom simultaneously when Phantom isn't on my scroll wheel.

um my set up is.

taunt for mouse click.
1 for shield trash
2 for slash [i dont know what its called who cares]
3 for double stab [ same as b4]
4 for auto atk [after shield trash]
5 for hp pot
6 for mp pot
7 for uni pill
8 for vital increase
9 for [the pt dmg dis skill warriors know what im talkin about]
0 currently not used

ring fing at 1
mid fing on 3
index on 5
thumb on space bar
pinky on tab

right hand on mouse then left on my keys..

i usually use 1,2,3,4
F1=skills
F2=buffs
F3=pills and potions
F4=not using it
middle mouse slot=for phantom walk(in case i'm using F3 i can still phantom away to survive attacks)

F1 skills
1=imbue
4=first skill use
3=finishing skill
2=in case it's still alive after my finishing move or i use this after first skill only if monsters hp is huge like giants..

and for the new slot i put horse potions and hunger potions

There's no real exact fingering since i slide my hand around but usually my hand is centered around 4 and I never have any trouble hitting any of the keys with my left hand alone since I use right hand for mouse.

hum I usually use my left hand for skills/pick up/pet control and mouse to move target and ghostwalk


I use my right hand for my mouse and I when I get someone knockdown I take it to my stab quickslot aorund 7-6 and smash then like crazy and I also like to yell FLOOR when I get someone knocked ^^

left hand on 1-6 and right hand on my mouse.F1 is my dagger skills.F2 xbow.F3 cleric.and since my keyboard is a bit different theres an crack between:

F7-F8
6-7
T-Y
G-H
B-N
and space button is double.
