Lag when signing on? [edited]

does anyone know why i lag trying to sign on? (the part where you put in your ID and PW) this has never happened before, and with this lag my entire comp freezes. The only way to get out of it is to restart my comp :[

I am currently using windows XP with 512MB of RAM, 2600+ Processor and i've got a good graphic card (ati 9250) ..

so does anyone what is causing this lag?
.. signing on is already hard without lag

edit// my bro has the same RAM as me (512) with a graphic card which is a bit better than mine (ati 9600) and his game runs smoothly.

.. So i dont think its my RAM or graphic card .. ive used a even crapper card (nividia mx400) before and i didnt lag.

and no my comp doesnt have any viruses and im not running anything else at the same time ... so anyone know of any other causes?

there's your problem :P

either way... do a defrag on your hard drives and spyware sweepers if you haven't already done so...
if not maybe there's some other high resource demanding programs running in the background? something like msn messenger can easily take up 70-100mbs of ram when u've got multiple windows open..

nope, ive already tried running the game only with nothing else running at the same time, and according to the sro site 512MB of RAM is the required specification.

could it be my net? after all .. i am using a wireless net USB >_>

If the program lags that makes it freeze and have to restart computer that's got nothing to do with the internet

any way of hard wiring a connection then? u could try and see if there's a difference..

but the lag for login shouldn't be that affected by merely a slower internet connection

i still think it's your computer and ram..

ok .. so you think a 1GB RAM would do it?
how much would one of those cost anyway..?

It isn't his RAM, 512 is fine.

Well, your internet shouldn't affect login at all, when i had 56k Dial Up, i logged in pretty fast.

MAYBE it is your RAM, i have 1.2 Gigs of RAM and opening the game does take some time.

Maybe more RAM will work, i once had 256MB or RAM, UT2004 was.... unplayable, i got myself another 512MB and it went perfectly smooth.

Or maybe you have an anti-virus thats making some things slow, like Panda, Panda made my PC feel like it was from 1789, back then there weren't any computers, and i have had problems with PCCilin, McAfee and Norton. =p

running with 4gig ram you need atleast 2 gig to run sro..or you could get 1 gig 8)

have u updated your graphic card drivers? i had the same prob and it fixed when i updated the drivers. Also, RAM is not the main reason, but ya, 1gig of RAM is desirable for sro...512 just doesnt cut it. IM about to upgrade from 1 gig to 2 gigs

I lol at you.

Only game on the market that requires 2GB to run smoothly is LOTRO.

For the person having trouble with antivirus, Microsoft FTW!!!! I have windows Live One Care and I love it, it tunes up your comp (auto defrag, spyware and antivirus every sunday night) and it takes up minimal resources. I had nortan and turned down free mcaffe from comcast for this. Its really good and worth the 50 bucks.

Just turn off the "High Intro Settings" in the video options. It's not your ram...

Alright... People... I have one thing to say... ITS NOT HIS GODDAM RAM THATS THE PROBLEM. He stated that hes been using 512 MB and he has had no problems before so its obviously something else. I play with 512 MB RAM and the only time i lag is in towns or if my internet connection has a crash :banghead:
