Oh yes its that time again . Time for a new poll to satiate my curiosity.

As a start let me define some concepts:

Player psychographic profiling: is what game designers/marketeers may use to plan and design a game that is always evolving, to optimize the demands and needs of its customers, getting better customer satisfaction, and more profit to them .

So what is it?
Its a way to categorize or pigeonhole players, and theres many ways to do this, but simply put its what motivates one to keep coming back and playing the game more.

So how is this relevant in sro?
Since SRO is still in development, but already planned, this might not be completely relevant. However, it is always interesting to see and sample a part of the sro community if not only for academic purposes.

Although you might identify yourself as being a bit of each (which is normal) try to find the one trait that defines you the most. Here are the main divisions:

1. Best player: You aim to be the best player that you can be (if not in the server). You learn about the game, read the forums, read the guides, join the best guilds, see what other players do, race to cap lvl, fully farm, try to get sosuns or alchemize like crazy, see the vids, learn about pvp tactics, etc always trying to better yourself.

2. Creative expression: You do things to show your creativity. You make chars that are innovative, break out from the common mould, a tendency to find glitches in game, or new ways to play that others havent though about, organize fun activities, +/- expressing your creativity in artwork, and best of all you want others to recognize that you are uniquely creative.

3. Play for fun: You play cause its fun, +/- meet players and make friends online, you might not get cap lvl quick but the journey in getting there is more important, you enjoy party lvling, you're more inclined to be in a guild where they are socially active.

I'm sure you could divide the profiles further, but the other groups will definitely be in the minority (eg fantasy goobers, opportunistic business minded, paedophiles etc). So I'm curious, what kind of player are you?

EDIT: there is no right nor wrong trait. I'm pretty sure the profile distribution would shift should I post this thread in a different forum We shall see.

Play for fun

I'm not trying to prove something in this game, i'm not trying to be teh best...i'm just having fun
The only motivation for me to go and lvl up...is that it will bee more fun then

I'm playing more than 1year...other players are caped at that time, but i'm only lvl56. Sometimes i only pvp all month, just to have fun, meet new ppl and again...have fun. Then i go lvl up, after that, pvp again.

This game is fun for me, so i don't care about how much gold i have, or how good my items/weapons is...i don't care if i can pwn someone. I'm always help ppl if i can...just so they can have fun in this game too

Just play for fun, and you gonna love this game

well everyone wants to own...
but most i play for fun, at the beginning i was with 6 irl friends playing, they all stopped bcuz they played to long and didnt get high, they moved to wow lol

but now im still here, though i am alone i still have fun, except those stupid party that dont get the system...

I play for fun atm. But once i get to 80, i'll try to pimp my gear and kick your asses to be the strongest person

well, im lvl 33 now ... wil take long time till lvl 80 with all those ppl that dont get partying :|

fun. I'm having fun and enjoying the game.

OT:

I notice that I'm the only one who voted to be the kind of player that expresses his/her creativity. I know there are more of you guys/girls out there xD.
Some of the things I've done that I think would make me fall in this category:
1. 5 mastery tree pure str glaivier
2. Pure str archer wearing armor at lvl 69: you cant kill pure str your lvl -.-, and you can kill pure int your lvl, why use garms?
3. Nude race run from jangan to hotan (before euro update), maybe a marathon to cp now
4. Horse race run
5. Treasure hunt
6. A milliard of hybrid char builds
7. Finding new (legit) ways to get gold
8. Found interesting glitches in the game
9. Involved in making sro movies (though this might also be a fun social event)
10. Playing a pure int garm and force user (healer/ressor)... and loving it

Iuno, I guess I do all,I play to have fun with friends and stuff, I definatly always hated being like everyone else, always tried things diff >.>, and definatly try to be the best, I was always up there in the top archer in xian, will be again someday hopefully -.-.

ah I used to do those naked races.

Tho we created a new char, lvl 1.

Race was from jangan to hotan, with no gold.

So if you died you had to spam for res, and pick up the gold to pay the ferries!!

It can be difficult to place yourself in a particular profile, but try harder I guess where you are in the game might affect what motivates you to keep coming back to it.

Play for fun as in owning uniques like mad , making a char for that as we speak

Ah yes, the alchemist. I found it hard to place this in a separate psychographic profile as it is what most consider an essential part of the game, though the motivation in doing so may vary. I know compulsive gamblers might revel in the element of chance just to get a high enchantment on an equip, or full blues etc and sell them later to get gold, then repeat the process. I also know players like myself that alchemize equips just because, and then find it hard to part with it.

So it really depends, if you find it fun then you're cat3. If you want props from your friends, then you're probably cat2. If you want to use it to pwn the next player in pvp, then you're definitely cat1.

I didnt included another option 4. Other/all , because I know for a fact that most players can identify themselves in each of the categories, and the poll would become rather less informative (as most readers would probably vote cat4. other/all). The descriptions for each were meant to be a guide, to help you identify the most dominant trait that would define you best. If you still couldnt categorize yourself, try to see what motivates you now, what keeps you playing the game right now.

the play for fun option includes both 1 and 2 then for me :p

I dont cheat, so thats why choosing 'best player' is out of the question for me.

I knew this was going to come up

Being the best doesnt mean you have to cheat to get there. Theres a lot of time and effort spent in being a better gamer. Its that aspect that defines you in category 1. Having a capped char fully farmed sosuns, might be difficult as a legit player, but thats what you aim for.
