You should use buy a wirelesss-N router (as long as it's not Linksys). My router has 14X range and 6X speed of the wireless-g specs. When I upgraded my network, I got 4-5 signal bars most of the time. Rock solid connection.

just get a simple wireless router and get a accespoint next to your pc to pick up the signal and send to your pc by ethernet, im 24/7 for like 4days now.

Bah I used wireless in my living room for 2 days and i lagged way too much. Constant DCs with an excellent signal.
Went into my attic and wired a spare ethernet cable into my living room from the router. Problem solved

I'm still on 802.11b, the router is on the first floor of the house right near the microwave, and I'm on the second in the far room. I used to drop my connection after ~15 minutes when we had a 2.4GHz cordless phone system. Now that the phone system is 5.8GHz I only drop around once an hour. It's really not too bad. Ever see game instruction manuals where it says to take a break every hour? I consider it my built in break system.

I would go wired if I was 5 feet from my modem/router but otherwise it's kind of conspicuous to have a bunch of cables running around the house and especially up the stairs.

i share the net between two computers and the modem/router is not on mine. Therefore im using the wireless network usb... thats probably why im lagging.
is it possible for two people to use to separate router but share one net?

I'm in the same situation as Cruor, I would get wired if it didn't mean running a cable across my entire house. With wireless I usually only get 3 bars (yellow) but everything still runs fine and I get the same amount of dces as with a wired connection (not very many).

Two things. You aren't taking your connection to your ISP into account which I can guarantee you is probably 10Mbps or less. Your video card will have nothing to do with getting DC'd or not; lag is when your framerate stutters and high latency is when your connection stutters however people seem to mix the two. If you open up three command prompts and ping -t your router, Google, and the IP address of whichever server you play on in SRO you can diagnose where the problems are. If you are loosing the connection to all three then it is your router that is the problem. If you loose your connection to Google and SRO but maintain the connection to your router then it's a problem with your modem or the lines running to it. Finally, if you loose the connection to SRO but keep pinging your router and Google then it is a problem with SRO's servers.

Running wire pays off in the long run. Should a house ever get sold, a big plus is having it already wired for a network. Even if standards of wiring change over the years, at least there will be a wire in there you can help fish the new stuff through.
Wireless is convenient sometimes, and inconvenient other times. You just have to decide whether or not it's worth it, or you'd actually get less hassle by running some wire.
