NOT a game of skill

I'm sorry if you disagree, but this game is not a game of skill.

It's purely and exclusively based on time, ie. the amount of time you have invested levelling up your character and pimping your equipment.

Thus calls like "noob' and the like, intended to be an insult really prove nothing. All it says is that you have spent more time on your character than your opponent, making you stronger and able to kill him( her).

I am sick to death of all the punk ass little brat kids who play this game and call you noob, weak etc.. because it really is not the case.

To be frank it's simple mathematics. Your level > my level, so you win. It really is that simple.

Of course there are variations of skills, strength, quality of equipment, but I believe this only applies within 5 or so levels. That is to say a level 43 character with totally pimped full SOS may be able to kill a level 48-53 character, but when the gap is ten levels or more, skill has nothing to do with it.

To some you'd agree I am stating the obvious, to others you might be shocked and dismayed that you don't actually possess anything more than a higher level character, you are NOT special, you individually are in no way better at playing this game than the trader ten levels below you that you just killed.

I am an older player (26), coming from a background of platformers like Mario, Sonic, WOnder BOy etc. and fighting games like Street Fighter and Mortal KOmbat where split second reflexes and hand-eye co-ordination was most definitely required to be good. Not simply the time you've invested in your character.

I can't stress enough how much these (assumptions....) spoilt, obese American children with rich, neglectful parents annoy the hell out of me when they claim superiority after killing someone (me) when it has nothing to with ability, only maths.

Sorry I don't use a cheat /bot program, and I work full time to pay my mortgage, maintain a relationship (no kids thank f'king christ) and cook, clean, shop etc.. so I simply can't be playing this game ten hours a day. That doesn't mean you can give me shit about being a mere level 43, when you've botted, bought gold and mooched off your parent's paying your internet, electricity, food etc bills and got seven level 70+ characters.

/end rant

I agree that this game (in fact any MMO) is based on the time you invest on your character. But I do want to point out that being a high level isn't everthing. You can always have fun with the guild/union no matter what level you are. Unfortunately SRO have too many players who fail to understand this fact thus they turn to the dark side.

agreed. more time = more xp, more gold, greater chance to obtain sox from mobs, careless stallers ,newbies etc.

Mirrorman, totally agree with you. Some people just absolutely ignorant when it comes to this game. i'm surprised some high lvl's even know how to play this game after they bot their whole life.

Wait, what? You think that you can just jump into sro, spend a week and be the best?

Sorry but that's utter bullshit. This game is based on the long term grind. Be it by hand or bot you can decide. If you don't like the grind go play some easy leveling game like cabal or wow.

Yeah there are not alot of skill variation but ALOT of people love it. Ant thats what makes sro so special. It dares to do it's own thing. Ofcourse some one who played the game for a year is totally going to rock someone whos been playing for alot less. of course if it's My lvl > Random lvl = Me win. Cause I invested more time .. lol.

I agree there are alot of little kids ... but that gives me the surge to continue. All these little mouthing I F*CK MAMA kids or general immature retards make this game quite amusing. All tho if some one can kill you ... they have the right to smack talk, seeing as they > you. If you don't like it go grind more or buy better gear. Even if they botted to the cap bought 3 full sun sets every sun wep and sun jewels .. you still have a chance. only the gullible quit.

Oh yeah .. and please don't stereotype.

Skill still remains an essence. Sro still needs basic tactics, knowledge of which skill to use and where. I see glaivers spam sss + gsm all the time when it could be done much more efficiently. Or the s/s nuker than only kd.

So many just don't understand the game, hens lacking SKILL.

AMEN!! I quoted the parts I liked best about your rant. Really couldn't say it better myself. I couldn't agree with you more and it just kills me watching these lil fkers running around thinking they are so dam good because they totally raped a newbie.. come on! I mean I expect to die while jobbing, so when it doesn't happen, thats when I'm happy and proud. But if a lvl 80 full Sun player looks at me and drops me dead.. then goes bragging about it or rubbing it in my face, then I got a problem with that. Where was the challenge??

I got a full time job, I got bills to pay (no kids yet myself) but that doesn't mean I can spend every hour of my free time on the game either. I'm already amazed at how far I've come with no one but myself to congratulate for all the hard work. People like us, we got more to brag about then they do

For expert players reaching lvl 80 by their own hard work and hand grinding i dont think it would be so boring...

1st, The game is actually usefull for people, it teaches us that when you invest time in something, you can harvest it later on, which is exactly the nice feeling that a player that finally reached lvl 80 gets.

2nd, The game is not totally based on time u invest, if you used your skills right you can change a battle, if you use it wrong...u suck, for example a blader noob at lvl 60 that doesnt use KDs will be pwned by a 50~55 nuker (IMO)

3rd, The jobbing system is extremely fun and...hmm....nah i have nothing to say about this part its just self explanatory....the job system is just too much fun.

Besides what do you expect? You reach level 5 and you are ready to pwn level 40s? it just doesnt make sense.

I'm not saying like i'm playing 10 hours a day...i play like 5 hours day off day on..and its not so bad..I'm having fun even when i'm level 2x...just simply because i have some friends ingame. :)

Try experiencing the game with friends...lol you might just stop at your level cause you are just having too much fun to spend time on grinding :P

yeah I'm not saying skill wont make a difference in a fight but it's not as important as other factor as gear and lvl.

let,s face it a game where you can use macro to pvp doesn't really need lot of strategy or skill :P

So basically the OP is telling us everything we already know.

Oh no no, don't get me wrong. I totally agree with you that basically a lvl 80 s/s nuker who has no clue can get decked by a lvl 80 glaiver who knows the game easy.....

It's just, I dunno .. err wait what .. a macro for pvp? That's really pushing it, that's taking laziness to the next level....

Thanks:)

I can't make a smilie face which truly expresses my gratitude.

I played this game for a good 6 months FULL time to get to level 43. This is my first MMORPG I've ever played so everything was new to me.

I really enjoy playing it, especially recently with the inclusion of party monsters. I mean you nuke, 5 hit combo, then phantom walk the f'k out of there so you can get a bit of distance, then nuke again. I love my dog, it keeps the giant/champion busy while I can get my shit together:)

But the thing that annoys me the most is when I am trading, through the longest route through ongs and black robbers, and a high level thief will kill me in one hit, and then brag about it!?!?

I mean for fux sake... I struggle to get 150K lately, and I just lost it thanks to you, and in no way shape or form do you deserve that extra gold..

Again I call out for high level hunters to make themselves available to random traders.

WE NEED YOU!!!

there are little skills required indeed, only it's kinda important for chinese char.to know what skill to do first etc. The europ char. should have kinda basic instinct to do their job in the party and do it good ...

but that's about it :P if you want to be good cause off skill, go play fps/rts

i thought ALMOST every MMORPG(massively multiplayer online ROLE-PLAYING game) are like that? Levels is everything in almost any MMORPG

Uhmm... I think this would change with the introduction of Euro.

It's not going to be solo based anymore like Chinese characters were. In a party, it actually requires some skill to do your supposed role... PvPs are also revolutionized... It's just not just the usual 12345 now. Also, on future updates with the sieges, major strategic stuff is needed there.

Oh well, if you're whining about Chinese characters though, I'd say, "Hey, nobody said it was" Hehe... But uhmm, it's really a BIG PLUS if you're skilled and highly familiar with your character and build. Like say, dual weaponing with Chinese, requires a bit of feat to play effectively...

I think being a high level also need some responsability, just getting to high level doesn't mean you can abuse your power by randomly calling people noobs.

But you guys have to see, the high levels now are the once that started at low levels as well, maybe they have been treated the same by high levels back then, being call noob just being low level or laugh at by high lvls. which in turn contribute to their attitude towards others when they are high level.

When a good game community persis, the whole server will be friendly, when someone exploid the system by being a jerk, the system is corrupted. It is unfortunate that there is always that someone who like to step out of line and be a jerk, which will start a chain reaction leading to creation of more jerks down the road.

My suggestion is to be a friendly person all the time, so that you'll earn lower levels' respect. And inturn low levels will want to be like you, because they think you are a good model player.

When I thief i usually don't say anything to the trader, really just to avoid any type of interaction so that you won't express sympathy nor making usless taunts which will discourage the trader. Cool blooded? kinda, but its just the nature of the game, its my job. You can play the game without being a jerk.

If I may I would like to draw an example of D2A ( no flame plz). I have no idea if he have cheated in game nor did any illegal activity, but I am not making a judgement, nor I have the right to do so. however I do respect his maturity both in game and in the forum, because he proofed himself as a respectable person just by not being a jerk, that is why a lot of people look up to him, simple as that.

Friendly Game community is build by starting with nice people, not by jerks that do unto others what they do to you.

respect to you mirror man, yes sro doesn't really requir any skills, nor thiking really. but the ultimate thing is to have fun, and meet a few friends online and complete a task together.

LOL who said this game was about skill...?

You just turn on the bot every morning and.. oops.

I mean You just turn on your computer every morning and grind for the next 24 hours to get to that next level. This game is based on time spent + luck.

There is a small part of the game based on skill and experience.

PvP takes SOME skill, though its quite minimal compared to games like CS: Source and Starcraft.

Nevertheless, You underestimate the time players put on this game,
and Sir. Patience is a skill by itself.

+1 ...

and in 90% of the MMPORG its is not a problem to get the cap as its the problem to get a pimped gear ...

in WoW for example u can be lvl 70 in one month with only 4 hours a day of playing ...

and as he said in GW you can reach the cap in only 3 dayz ..

joymax really needs to decrease the grinding and increase the fun and skills

You might consider skill as a hand-eye coordination like in fps games even with a perfect coordination you will need time to learn everything about the game and "own" the game.

Silkroad is a time consuming game, you as an adult should be able to at least waste money for silk items to make your ability to level faster.

Consider skill as being able to grind 3 hours a day and manage to get the same done as other players are doing in 8 to 10 hours.

being able to get a lot of gold in short time by knowing the market, a skill

Making the correct decision in a fight.

The fact that you cant even ignore those little kids worries me.

Enough small things that can make you skilled in a game like this.

-edit- about the leveling speed. Consider reaching the cap as the ultimate goal in this game

Im 17 Here ive played just as many games as your properlly have and i agree with you 100%. Counter Strike Did require skill same with sonic mario and with Most FPS games ive played which is alot. RTS Games required skill and stratergy like C&C Red Alert Etc Etc and so on MMORPGS are the only type of games where time is needed and even some of then need a certain level of skill like Guild Wars If You PVP'ed Alot.

I can't stress enough how much these (assumptions....) spoilt, obese American children with rich, neglectful parents annoy the hell out of me when they claim superiority after killing someone (me) when it has nothing to with ability, only maths. Xbox Live is the best place to see that lol

I don`t have that much patience, i do respect anyone whoever get to level 80 without using silk. i still have not found one.

I have no idea how the xbox works and the ways u can use to ignore such people But there is always a way to do it even if its the fact to simply remove your headset, block chat or anything like that can be done in silkroad.

Games requires skill to be good in it, some games might require more abilities to be good in it than others but silkroad definitely has skill-levels not that stupid level beside your char name

its that simple
