This belongs in tech help I think, or OTL :P

I have a 'GeForce 8800GTS' according to the video card box poking out form under my best. It's pretty awesome, but has some heat issues. -_-;

Isn't that like one of the newer graphics card out in the market?

I have a Geforce FX 5200 (Yes I know, it's old).

GeForce 8800 GTX SLI

**sli = 2 of the card

:), hehehehe, £400 (around $800) of graphics card.

but, it mops the floor with any, and i mean any other graphics card, and it will be able to run new games for atleast a couple years.

it is seriously worth the huge price tag. cos if you buy a mid range card for £100ish, it wont work on newer performance games that come out.

I still have a 7800 gt but if I can get a job this fall semester, I'll save up for a 8800 gts unless I want to go to Vietnam next summer in which I'll have to save up for the ticket. =)

serisouly guys. those of you want new cards.

look into the gigabyte geforce 6600 gt 128mb (not the 256mb, its slower)

its about £60-80 now, and is still awsome, i have one in my other pc, and can run cs:s on full graphics and battlefield 2 on full everything except shadows :)

I used to have nVIDIA FX 5200 too, but then I changed to RADEON X800 GTO (256MB, 256Bit).
Also added 1GB ram (now 1.5gb) and it still laggs on high.

Then you have very low RAM probably like 512mb.

I had a 5200 FX like when sro went beta and I did fine on high with 1 GB RAM, recently upgrade my vid card to a 8600-ULTRA and 4GB ram.... runs perfectly + more.

My graphics are integrated RAMDAC, 256 MB, runs perfectly fine on high with 2gigs of ram. :)

In mid January of 06' I could run shadows on high with a 5200 FX.

I guess shadows has more to do with your RAM. To solve many, many of sro's problems I'd recommend getting a block of RAM for like 40$ instead of spending 300$ on a GFX card.

theres no point going Sli with the 8800 GTX yet :P theres no processor that can handle its speed... so it gets bottlenecked :P so im still waiting to use my second 8800 -.-'

i have geforce 7900 can run on max settings but can only turn on detailed shadows when in an area with a low population

has anyone else noticed if you turn on detailed shadows at ice or caves you still get lags but no shadows are displayed

^^, depends, thats if your running quad core. lol.

but, quad core isnt all its cracked up to be, i have it, all you really can do is multi task even faster

(i can run, firefox, media player, silkroad, msn, xfire, aim, and all my av/firewall spyware programs at the same time :P)

2 years of combined pc building ^_^, and the wonders of working in a pc shop. lol (its good money seeing as were the only one for about 30 miles around)
