Are you tired of trying to logging on numerous times.
Tired seeing "Server full"? Just to be denies access after attempting 100+ times to log on.
Go to this web site. Rev6.com..(NO NUDE ADVERTISING) They have the number of players that are logged on each server and the max number of players that server can handle.
At least it gives you an idea how busy each server is...

o rly? dont u understand that the server capacity thing makes it harder to login. do u think you are the only one sitting there watching it .. once the player limit goes down to 2999 you and 50 other ppl are trying to login also u kno.. it doesnt help at all. all it does is give statistics that JM needs to expand their servers by about 1000 more slots

even that wouldn't do anything, think of the amount of countries isro covers 1000 extra slots is nothing and not to point out the obvious but most of the extra slots would be used by gold bots aswell :(

1000 slots could be taken in a matter of minutes.

Do you even know what you wrote above?
Do you know how much room would be left for the +3000ppl?
No?
The server isnt crowded just to be crowded. The entire map of the game can support up to 3k ppl's at the same time. Over 3k ppl the game will be inplayable => economy would be in ruins.

You do realize that the problem isn't server capacity nearly as much as how much the *game itself* can hold, right? There's only so much space in an MMO, and we all have to share it. Imagine the lag in cities *doubled*. Every time you see a bot, or a KS, imagine two of them taking mobs out from under your nose. Every time you're surrounded by people trying to hunt the same things you are, imagine twice as many.

This is why server sharding has become commonplace- not because it's needed for the hardware, but because it's needed to keep the game playable.

EVE Online manages to pull off a single world for the entire game because A- It's content is all randomly generated and spread out, so that there's enough people off in the fringes to keep the place from exploding. The EVE universe is *gigantic*, and you just can't make worlds like that in fantasy MMOs.

I know I personally have to wait 15-30 seconds after I die before I show up again in town, just because it takes so long to download and render all the other people on the screen.

FFXI, a game I used to play, has a function called "Besieged". One of the areas in the game is attacked by HUGE groups of enemy monsters, and players fight them off. Now, in this, the area originally would allow as many people on as wanted to join. This worked fine in beta tests and at conventions, when there were never more than 50 people online. As soon as it hit the real servers though, people would crowd in, 800, 900 to a single zone, and not only would it cause the server to crash, but even when they stood up the lag was absolutely horrible. They quickly added a 700 person limit- which meant that if you didn't get in well before it started and stay in, you'd usually have to fight for a spot. Still, with 700 people, you still see people randomly fade in and out, or you die before you even see your character raise.

It's not a problem with the servers- it's just that the client cannot handle it. The only solution is to either deal with the 700 person limit, or build more areas that serve this function. in SRO, this would translate to adding more servers.

@ whoever said it

the servers dont fill up that fast, after server checks and whatnot, i can login no problems for a few hours after, because the afk'ers and bots havent all logged in by then.

Its not what the game can hold its the quality of the server. I have to agree with D2U this time...if they would upgrade their server to be able to hold the load...

I think it helps a lot cause it gives you an idea about when the servers are full and when they are not so that you know when to try to log on (day, noon or night...etc.)

But its not like ppl will see one slot empty and open the game just to take it noone is that stupid like 141221930218390 people are trying to log in at the same time.

I knew about it for months now so u're pretty old

Upgrading might be able to hold 100 more players but 500 more bots.

Jesus H. Tap-dancing Christ, did you read the post at all? The game *could not* handle much more than it already has without a LARGE size expansion. The server has NOTHING to do with it- if it did, they could just combine hardware of two of the shards they have, it's the CLIENT that can't handle crap like that.

Like my example of FFXI and Besieged- The server keeps tracks of hundreds or even thousands of hits per mob, every single player's HP, pets, skill times, without missing a beat. The *client computers* cannot render all that, let alone smoothly.

Again, whenever you walk into town, see bots, have to struggle to find an EXP mob, imagine trying to deal with twice that, and that's about all you really do. The way SRO is designed, adding more shards is the proper solution, not increasing population. Clients might be able to handle 500-1500 people per shard when euro comes out, depending how popular euro areas are, and how large they are, but just doubling the size would kill us.
