Account, IP is easy to change, also it would mean major internet cafes ect operating on the same ip would all get banned.

No, one would set up the bot and browse the internet.

I mean i'm not into the whole botting thing, because IMO i wouldn't feel so great knowing i got my level 80 without me doing anything, as in no sense in achievement. Whats the game for then ? -.-

Better not play in an internet cafe, cause by default all internet cafes have keyloggers (for their security :S) which are exploitable. You can easily change your ip if you have dynamic ip, or if you use an open proxy :/. Oh gosh I digress, yes they get account ban.

The real statement should be as follows
"
IF a bot gets banned, will it by by account or IP".

90% of gold farming is done by computers back-doored by trojans that run the game purely in binary, unbeknownst to the host. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of bots on each server, operating on 20+ servers. If you do the numbers, you realize there's no way these bots are operated manually.
As for avoiding those who change their IPs (if Joymax were to ban by IP), banning by MAC address avoids this problem. If Joymax were to be serious about their so-called "war against the bots," they would do this. But Joymax makes a handsome profit from botters, so this will not happen.

I'm pretty sure you can change your mac address.

That's fine. I'll let you go on believing these people are logging on thousands of computers individually and manually to run their bots.

PS: try to observ at DW B**** area and JG G****** you will see 20 - 45 character standing there 24hrs and from time to time some character with the name of qwerqwer1 and qwerqwer2 go near him and after 5-15sec go away and take note they are falling in lines

i was thinking those 20 - 45 afk chars are gold companies gold collectors... imagine the competition >.< legits suffer..... but they cant help it they still buy gold from them.. sigh*

Yes, maybe you should use Google.
1. It's easy to get a backdoor onto someone's computer.
2. It's not hard to code a program that will run the game in the background.

they should block IP ranges for about a week when an offense is committed.

zombies/slaves are probable.
but it could be:
the companies themselves. image 20 mid spec. pc's
they could handle about 5-10 sro clients (on low gfx) if they multi cliented.
thats how many bots they could be running per place. etc etc
