Im not sure if there is a base HP for mercs, i would assume there is. You can upgrade your mercs hp, attack power, and possibly defence via the guild agent.

And yeh, a guildmaster can't pot his mercs. And they have a set amount of life, though I don't know how much.

the HP is according to the master

As TNT said, the Hp is according to the master, and I think their stats too will reflect their master as well.
