I got an email from SRO_Joymax@yahoo.com saying that 5 people reported me using a bot client (which I didnt do) The person said they are [GM] Tarkey and that they need my ID and PW to do a account inspection. Is this real or is this a scammer trying to steal my account? If it really was a SRO GM wouldnt they be able to get my ID/PW without asking me for it?

Cin said:

DONT give it
sro would be able to get it. this is a scam

post this in General Discussion too. ppl might want to know this.

Argue responded:

Thank you cin. I figured that much. Right when I had received it I sent them an email letting them know im not falling for that. And then mentionted that if they are really a [GM] to contact me inside of the game through pm or message. I also guessed that SRO would already have that info or could retrieve it without asking me. The part that got me is that I dont understand how someone in game got my email address to begin with. I will go post this in general forums. If you know anything about how they might have gotten my email, pls let me know.

Update: Ive reported the email address to joymax also, Im not sure that they will or can do anything, or if they even care. Hopefully though this post will help other people not to get tricked.

One question: How did these scammers get my email????

Ive got a yahoo email that i use for signing up to game etc. but I alo have a hotmail.com address. Hotmail is much better and you dont get spam etc. I use my yahoo for things I dont trust and my hotmail for my close friends/family.

I suggest you get a hotmail.com address, its better.

Yeah, don't trust anyone. If they needed some info they can always access they're own data.

with all the posts regarding hacking ways, every1 should know that JM would never send e-mails asking for account info. I'm not a very active srf member, but i think i've read at least 10 topics untill now about this problem. And still... can't understand why some "freak out" when they get PMs or e-mails from fake GMs...

Here is the original email I got btw. Just for laughs.

Hello, This is [GM] Tarky from the Joymax Technical Support.
We get a report from five players saying that you have used a bot client, it's why we absolutely need you're ID and PW as soon as possible to do an inspection to you're account, this inspection will take 12 hours as maximum, and it will permit to us to know if you really used a bot client or not.
If you don't send you’re ID and PW to that address SRO_Joymax@yahoo.com you're account will be banned from all the servers.
Thank you.

Note: This person phrases like the SRO [Guide] tips that pop up on the screen.

[Guide] If you get off on the transport, it will disappear.

As suggest in many other posts by me and others. Make a gmail account with a random 16 char string, hell you can even stick a few dots in there I think. Then use that as your account email, it will make your account a lot more secure.

Pretty much takes common sense to know who's a fake and who's not.

Your id = in their hands...
Your password = not.

So even JoyMax does NOT know your password.

As for the second part, i agree.Never tell someody@yahoo.com your password...if JM wants to go on an account inspection, they will simply change yer pass and inform you of it after it is done.

Imo, its best to have an email account solely for your game use. Another for your day to day and forum use.

Do not publish your SRO email account. This way its safer.

Maybe you can report it at Yahoo :)

Argue wrote:One question: How did these scammers get my email????

Maybe they did 'research' on your username(s), your profiles (on any website), any account or profile with your email could be found by him/her/them...

Like the other guys say best to have and use an email adress strictly for Silkroad.

Scammers FTL! :x

Good job on nòt getting scammed and asking before sending :)
