Change registration and Verify Users in Silkroad.

When you register to this site, you have to own a mobile phone to verify your account with silkroad, so you will receive a verification code via text message. However, one mobile phone number to one account only. In addition, the people who have already playing this game will have to verify too, as you got a month to do so, or your account will be temporary disabled from playing this game until you do. This may stop gold botters.

It may work or might not.

You think it is a good idea or not?

Not a good idea.
Some plans charge for incomming text, and most people don't want to pay for a free game.
Some people don't have cell phones
Not everyone on SRO posts on this site (and some people around here don't even play the game)
Just seems like an over all nuisance

It is not for this site it is for the official web site, which gives you an account to play the game. Loads of people have mobile phones & if you do not have one, borrow your mum or close friend. Simple.

Go and drink some more beer..........

I have a mobile phone, does it ever receive text messages from things like facebook or things like this? No. Do I know why? No. Theres too many problems with it.

They should just close registration for a while. Ban all the gold bots, then laugh as their companies die.

Bad idea. Like someone mentioned above, a lot of plans charge for incoming text message. I don't want to pay a fee for a text message verification code just to play a game. If the user doesn't have a cellphone, you suggest they borrow a friend's phone. So that friend should pay for the SRO player to verify his account?

Besides, botters will just verify themselves with their own cellphone anyway... unless you mean to make this verification thing a part of the logon process EVERY time you log into SRO. Botters might not always verify. Even then, I don't think legits would want to pay for a text for each time they log in, let alone pay for even the first text.

I think it would be better if a non-free-web-based email is required to register a new account. Once you register, an email will send to that account and you need to verify it. And only one email per account. This would at least stop most of the everyday multi-account botters. And could possibly reduce the amount of afk stallers.

Nah basically have the SRO client fingerprint the PC's hardware etc. Send a profile to JM. Then when they ban they can ban the profile. Meaning if they got the identifiers off the CPU etc the CPU would have to be replaced before the PC could play again. Or ban by nic cards mac address.

The PC Profile idea might not be too bad. However, if the user plays from multiple computers (like at a university), and he/she gets banned from one computer, the user can just move to the next computer and not be banned.

As for banning by MAC, that won't work too well because MACs can be easily changed in Windows 2000 and XP. Even if you couldn't change your MAC, what if another user wanted to play from that computer? Again, thinking of university or other multi-user environments.
