I am getting more/better drops with this method......

Post by robert_utk »

Ok somewhere in these forums I read that killing a mob faster increases your chance of a nice weapon or tablet drop. So I keep an eye out for any patterns.

Well I have one shot a ton of green mobs and almost never has anything nice dropped. I ask myself, "how often have I had to run up and get the nice item, versus how often is it at my feet already?" The answer to me is that the nice drops are almost always at my feet from the normal green mobs that happen to get into close range. So I have set aside the "quick kill theory" for now.

HOWEVER, when I am amongst my fav green mobs (right now its yeohas, since I am pure str and decent garments to wear) I am virtually immune to them and pause sometimes to do alchemy. Well I started to notice that when I come "back" from alchemy and dispatch the 4 or 5 mobs around me at close range they drop much better stuff! Sometimes it piles up around me, even with multiple weapon drops!

So here is my method and it works great for me so far: Dont kill them any faster than you have to (wait for me to explain before you farmers freak out) AND ENGAGE AS MANY AT ONCE AS POSSIBLE. I am str so I just tank them all at once, no experience yet with pure INT, feedback from INT's is requested. This works best with bow, but if you are fast on your feet you can do this with any weapon. I take my best bow and just get in one normal shot on as many different mobs as possible. If they are slow moving mobs, start out in the middle and get a giant circle of them slowly moving towards you. I just make a slow 360 and shoot anything NOT already moving in my direction. Once you have all there attention, then focus on the ones standing next to you and wail on them WITH ONLY STANDARD ATTACKS, no imbues, no skills. Presto! You have more drops per mob and you will notice more special drops as well.

Now let me pause for a second, I know some of you will flame this but I do understand that the mind plays tricks and when you kill several thousand mobs there will be random times that lots of great drops happen. But ask yourself the same question I did, how often do you run up and get the nice drop versus pick it up already at your feet? If you always are 1 shot killing your green mobs, has it been forever since your last SOx item? (im a noob and got 2 SOx drops so far) Try it my way for a week and post your results in this thread maybe we all benefit a great deal!

Ok you farming flamers, I said I would address the issue of killing as many as fast as possible: By NOT using bow missle or any imbues, I am adding 1 or two more shots per mob to kill them. But now they are all coming to me and their drops are at my feet. I dont have a monkey/squirrel yet, but even if I did I would still want them all walking towards me anyway. Think of it as number of mobs killed per footstep. Walking around in silkroad takes up the majority of all our time.

Here is my theory for why this works, and if I am right this explains it perfectly: Each time we attack a mob a random roll occurs as to whether it will drop an item. Gold is dropped immediately, most other drops are held untill the death of the mob. More shots per mob means more chances at a drop, its that simple. Maybe there is more to it, for nicer drops also. Maybe the luck of the roll is affected by how many mobs are attacking you at the time. If so then 3 shots per mob with 5 mobs attacking you gives 15 chances at a lucky drop plus the possibility of compounded bonus for multiple mobs. Take those odds compareed to just 5 single shots on far away mobs that you have to run up and get any drops.

So give this a try, I am able to be out forever doing this, I can use force healing about 4 times an hour and my MP base rate replenishes faster than that so never a single pot is used, it takes more arrows, so bring more that is the only thing that will make you leave the killing/farming area.

I am trying to help us all, so criticism is fine but please take the time to try the method first.

if you want to have a lot of drops, you might want to buy yourself a rabbit
or a squirrel from the item mall. for the rest, its all luck. no real drop chance
in this game.

also, when you post a story that long, try to make it readable with different
paragraphs. there is not many that will read through the whole txt.

Interesting theory, but at your level....you get more drops than you can handle. Everyone gets major drops from level 1 - 20/25.
As you get higher things will soon start to decrease. Sorri to tell ya.

As our fora guardian cin allready said. There is no "trick" to get more drops from the mobs. Its just luck and more luck.

Once again I hope to get other people who are in my similar situation, lvl 16-20 to try the method and report back. Any takers?

More drops come from grinding on green and white mobs. If you grind on the orange mobs, the drops are a bit better I guess but less common.

Well to summarize, his theory seems to be that if you tank as many mobs as you can (near you, not long-range), and kill them a little slower (don't use tons of skills and imbues) you'll get more drops.

He suggests using a bow, no imbue or other skills. shoot 1 arrow at as many mobs as you can handle, then kill them all as they are next to you.

I've noticed a slight trend towards this sometimes when I'm out grinding. The more mobs I kill in a group, the more drops I seem to get. Maybe it's just the mind playing tricks on you because you just killed 10 mobs and got a huge pile of gold/alchemy items and 2 or 3 equipment drops, so it seems like a lot. It still seems like you get more than if you killed those 10 mobs 1 at a time with your strongest skills.

Besides, it's fun to take on a large mob of monsters at least 5 or 7 at a time. When there's no lag, I'll sometimes go out and tank 3 or 5 red mobs at a time. Even throw a giant into the mix. It's just fun to watch a blader take on that large of a group :)

So you are saying that bladders get the most drops and nukers get the least?

mobbing or however its called is what you are doing.

you will notice at later levels that this is an extremely effective way of grinding
probably the only way you notice you get more drops is because you are not grinding 1 mob each time. (prometheus said its just a mind trick)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=nrx17k6CwWU he is practically doing the same but with nukes this way of grinding makes it fun and also a bit more challenging and not boring if you keep your tactic with bow use imbue and try harder mobs instead (you wont kill them before they reach you that way)

the only weird part is that i somehow seem to find the same items on certain grind spots.

No problem :)

Yeah I do that all the time when I grind. I always have my wolf out during a grind session. I'll use snake sword dance and evil cut blade (long ranged attacks) to pull monsters to me. Once that group gets low on health, or dead, I'll pull in other ones that are nearby with my long-range and let my wolf finish off whatever's left in the group. So if I can find enough mobs, I always have 3 or 7 mobs on me. Closer to 3 when I'm grinding reds or oranges though :)

Not true, when I needed money @ lvl 64 I grinding on yetis and what not (green to me) and not a single drop in 3 days. So your theory stinks ^.^
