My Addiction with SRO
I have just quit for the 2nd time. I hope it is the last, but you never know. Here is what I have done this past year.
In about 2 weeks will be my 1 year anniversary of playing SRO. Since then, my grades have declined drastically. From a 3.6 GPA out of a 4 scale a semester to a 1.65 GPA this semester. I've failed my first class ever in college. My social life went from life of the party to never party. My skin color went from a nice dark brown to an OMG PALE WHITE!! I came home and sat on this chair for hours at a time. All night grinding sessions. I would drink massive amounts of coke to stay awake. My body has turned from lean muscular to where's the muscle OMgzers lots of fat! I used to be able to run 10 miles a day easy a year ago. Today, I couldn't run 1.5 without a huge number of breaks. I used to have girls all over me. Now.. the only girls I talked to were online in SRO. I have failed to keep a job. I would call in sick just because I felt a SOS drop would drop for me, or the guild needed me. I have memorized every word from "That 70's Show" and "The King of the Hill" just because that's what's on TV when I started grinding.
This might be really bad. But if you can relate to any one of these things that I brought up, you're not far off.
I sat here thinking, when I have kids, would I rather be bragging about how fast I could run the 10k or about my l337 SOS +6 spear that I pimped out in blues? How would I feel if I brought a girl back to my place and showed her my "Awesome grinding skills" instead of my decent guitar skills?
The fact is, to be good in this game requires an INSANE amount of time. Almost to much. Doesn't WoW and Granda Espada have a limit on how much you can grind a day?
Is this game worth your life? The best years of our life? We should be exercising, meeting people, having fun in the real life.
Just because you get an SOS drop, doesn't mean you are cool or will get far in life. Getting good grades and meeting people will.
I have a problem. I am addicted to MMORPG's. Why? Well... Because in the real world I have problems. But playing a video game all day will not fix these real life problems. I am not encouraging you to give up playing this game. I AM encouraging you to stop making this game your life, if it has gotten that far. Limit yourself.. That is all.

Guys or Girls... I will say this again.. I am not saying to quit SRO... it is a fun game. Like chess or Mineswweeper. All I am suggesting is to please.. do not let this take over your lives. You people are young,.. you should be going to school or.. getting into trouble... practicing making babies or drinking out the wazzoo. Yes..a little SRO a hour a day will not hurt anyone.. just do not let it get the the point where it rules your life. I have let it happen to me and I have seen it happen to friends.

Bambskii is a buddy of mine who went through everything that you just described.... except that he played 23/7 hardcore while popping pills to keep himself goin.
Too bad many people don't know there's a secret way to be very very strong without putting any effort into the game. Everyone in Greece knows I'm always AFK near downwhang storage, and my guildmembers can attest that I'm rarely around. But yet, ironically, I'm still the strongest person in the server, leading the best and most powerful guild (Catastrophe) & union in Greece. You can indeed simultaneously enjoy what life has to offer while being competitive at the same time. That's a secret formula to everything

@Billingsworth:There is a happy medium you have to find. As for chicks and stuff, I always found it easier on myself to get girls who were interested in games. That way i don't have to worry about my weird super white complexion. xD
My suggestion to you is to find that medium. If your friends want to party or w/e then go do that, the game will still be there when you get back. If you get a girl who is uninterested in the game, then don't show her the game, show her other talents. You may be quitting the game, but remember the addiction will still be there, and you will have to feed it with something. I have a feeling that you will be back, and without the medium you so desperately need. xP

BAh I played SRO not cuz i had problems but b/c i was bored of life doing so many drugs i didnt know what day it was nor month doing so many things constant partying ect, after i quit SRO actually made me enjoy life again since playing video games for a yr keeps you locked up in a room. no one is going to play it for 4yrs non stop if they do they have a big problem but 1yr isnt much its a phase. That i went through and certain phases are needed
So trying to Enlighten ppl to make them c that sro shouldnt be there life wont work cuz thell end up quitting and going right back.
I Say Play Sro till you realized how joyful a simple walk around ur block without thinking of SRO is.
MMORPG has started a new phase that alot of ppl thats are still 30+yrs old are playing 24/7 or atleast play as much as they can, why persuade them to stop when they obviously haven't learned.
If the concept of us being all one consciousness's and us being one thing that lives endless through the cycle of nature the only clear emotion would be understanding .

just take it easy man... you dont need to quit this game but you dont have to get 80 in 2 month's either.
So just play a little more relaxed go to party's sometimes and the next day play sro a bit then go play soccer with your friends or just watch some T.V.
Its not this game's fault that you play 24/7 its your OWN fault, its up to YOU to play this game or not. The solution is: Sometimes go party and sometimes play SRO Noone forces you to play 24/7 and you dont have to get to the cap in 2 months

To the thread started....do some research. People have DIED playing WoW.
Google "deaths from WoW" in google and see what u get.
I also remember reading in an article about some guy who killed himself because one of his online friends stole his god weapon in everquest. The article described how his mother walked into the room and saw him dead at his computer desk. His brains were blown out all over the computer screen and everquest was still running.
Pretty fked up sh!t. ;o

Very entertaining read :p, my parents limit me so i can't game 24/7. But it sounds like your going through the worse stage of SRO addiction right now. Just throw your pc out of the window. It eliminates the problem... temporarily.
