AntiVir VirusScanner still detects SRO (sro_client.exe)

Hi Folks! :D

For those of you who have AntiVir as your Virus Scanner and are still getting the virus (trojan horse):

AntiVir 7.4.0.27 05.22.2007 TR/Spy.VB.QP.59

you should be able to put the file sro_client.exe on the exception list for your virus scanner in order to keep the virus scanner running/activated and not get the "virus detected window" for SRO coming up all the time.

The instructions are in the AntiVir manual:

http://www.free-av.com/antivirclassic/d ... sic_en.pdf

(look under the chapter associated with "exceptions" Section 5.2.5.)

I just tried this (added the process name and file to be omitted) and it worked perfectly. AntiVir no longer checks the file sro_client.exe or the running process sro_client.exe. No more virus popup windows!

Thanks,

P.S. I added section 5.2.5 of the manual farther down in this thread.

You can download the manual from the Antivir website http://www.free-av.com (under tech support).

If you can't see it you need to install Acrobat Reader (free from adobe) on your PC and confirm your browser has the associated PDF plugin. Make sure Adobe Reader is the default program that your PC uses to open PDF files.

Here is a copy of section 5.2.5 of the AntiVir manual:

5.2.5 Configuring exceptions from on-access scan

To specify which processes and file objects of the AntiVir Guard are to be omitted from the scan:

1. Select the Guard tab in the Control Center.
2. Click the Configuration link.
3. The Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic Configuration dialog box is displayed. You are presented with the Guard / Scan tab.
4. Activate the Expert mode option.
5. Additional tabs and options are displayed.
6. Select the Exceptions tab.

To add a process to be omitted:

7. Enter the name of the process in the input field of the Processes to be omitted for the Guard section.

You can specify up to 12 processes. The exact names of the processes are found in the Windows Task Manager. Windows Explorer and the operating system cannot be omitted from the on-access scan. A corresponding entry will be ignored. Only the first 16 characters of the process name (inclusive file extension) are considered. If there exist 2 processes whose names match the first 16 characters, Guard excludes both processes from the monitoring.

Example for process name: sro_client.exe

8. Click Add.
9. The name of the process is listed in the display window.

To add a file or directory to be omitted:

10. Enter the name of the file object in the input field of the File objects to be omitted for the Guard section.

All entries together must not exceed 6,000 characters.
Wildcards (* and ?) are only allowed in file names. Directory names must be concluded with "\". File names may not be concluded with "\".

Example for file name: c:\program files\silkroad\sro_client.exe
Example for directory name: c:\program files\silkroad\

11. Click Add.
12. Select the file object or process in the appropriate display window.

If you want to include a file object or a process in the on-access scan again:

13. Select the file object or process in the appropriate display window.
14. Click Delete.
15. The name of the file object or process is removed from the display window.

My Advice ... Add both the process (sro_client.exe) in the process window AND the file (C:\program files\silkroad\sro_client.exe) in the file window.

Hope this helps,

what if this spy is just implemented to detect 3rd party programs? gameguard is a joke anyway rather remove it and implement such "spy" to detect for any 3rd party programs.

i don`t mind

any pre-bot checking system is a joke especially if they don`t run while the game is running game guard only checks before a client will start, disable it and there you go the magical Trevor is done.

Yeah but in this game anywhere you go...you will see bots. Other games that keep their gg updated aren't like that. You see a few people cheating here and there but nothing like silk road.
