sorry for putting this in the wrong section, but everyone is in general, so i got a laptop for my birthday, and now when i play sro on it, the sro play screen looks small and the letters are small and it had an inch or two border around it, so i changed it to 1024x860 or something, now it is almost flush with the actual square laptop screen, but the inventory and what not(letters too) are still small, advice would be very appreciated. thank you in advance.

oo and are inspiron 8200 ne good? cause that is what i have and i wanted to know if it could hold alot of programs such as sro music and other misc but still be fast?

Specs please..

A good laptop will be able to play it, but what's the standard res of your laptop? (My guess is 1280x1024) so change your ingame res to 1280x1024.

The GPU is the component making you sys suck for games ... get a good mobile graphics card and you should be fine if you play SRO on low or maybe med.

its a laptop.. so not sure you can just swap graph cards.. tried lowest
settings? and if your sro screen is weird.. did you check your resolution
on your laptop and changed the sro one to that?

Well he asked what item being changed would help the most ... that's my view on it ... processor should be fine for SRO, RAM as well.

Of course changing things in a Laptop isn't that easy ... but I have no further experience with those.

Sorry to tell you this but you can't change the graphic card on this model.
You can only change/add:

-additional ram
-stronger cpu
-larger hard drive
-DVD recorder

The only thing that will maybe help run sro better is the additional ram.
But considering the notebook is old about 5 years it's a question if you can even find components to upgrade it.

ooo, well um.. thanks? how do u ppl know so much stuff on computers, like daym... but ne way, in retrospect does sro take up most of the cpu space or ram or whatever its stored on? like will i be able to download other things of my choice or does aim+sro+msoffice basicaly take up my whole comp?

Made a mistake eariler :banghead:
It seems you can change the graphic card in this model. But only to a nvidia GeForce4 440 GO 64mb. Which is worse than Radeon 9000.

if i got more ram or something could i store music and other programs... would more ram jsut free up space for more programs?

no
more ram does not mean more space
hard disk is for more space

BTW if you really want a good laptop, aim for 2500€

I have the Dell XPS M1710
160Gb Hard disk
4Gb Ram
Geforce Go 7950GTX
Dual Intel 7200

I set all on hight without any graphical lag at all (not even on uniques)

thats not good. that is superior.

mine cost me E1250

amd turion x2 tl52
100gig 5400 hdd
1gb ram (made it 2)
geforce go 7600

everything works as it should, on highest settings.

and i picked asus again for the design and the screen coating.
crystal clear 17"

edit: and going from 2gig to 4gig ram costs around E1000.
imo a waste of money since the difference isnt that big.

$1700-3400 for a good laptop? Christ on a stick you people overpay. :(

For that kind of cash, I could walk away (without shopping around at ALL) with:

15.4" screen (1680x1050 native res)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Mobile T7600 Dual-Core Processor @ 2.33GHz 667FSB 4MB L2 Cache EM64T
2GB (2x1GB) PC5300 DDR2-667 SODIMM Memory (Corsair)
Mobility Radeon X1600 256MB PCI-Express X16 Video
160GB 5400RPM SATA150 HARD DRIVE
8X DVD REWRITABLE DRIVE

And even rush ship it for good measure, and still pay under $1800.

But to the OP: your laptop is 5 years old, so there's really not much you can do short of replacing components. And since you are, after all, a "mega noob", I wouldn't recommend that. Laptops SUCK for component replacement.

Yes. Download as much as u want. Just make sure u have about.. 10 gig spare.

And its prob better if u just use that for internet needs ( aim, msn, w/e ), and go give one of your friends $2500 or so and go and get them to custom build u a high end gaming pc.
