Question about the word 'bot'

I always tell my mum about this game. Dunno why but I guess I just have to tell someone lol ^^
Now, she asked me: 'For what does bot stand for' (like WTF is for what the f*ck).
And if it doesnt stand for anything, can anyone explain to me how they got to this word =)

bot has been used for years, way before silkroad, derived from robot or robotic i believe, robots dont need humans to control them, well, not proper ones.
