Effects of ISP, DC to be true or to be Magic?

I had spring break recently and everyone in my apartment complex left for a week. This week that was last week was a gift from god.
I did not have one DC the whole week and I did not feel like I had to worry about being DC. I just new that as long as I had pots there was no way I was going to ever die. Anyways this week everyone has returned to school and now I am getting 5 DC daily. Most of them occur about every 2-4 hours.
I now realize my ISP must be horrible. I is Verizon DSL and the internet wire hooks directly into an outlet into the wall.

I am now wondering whether changing my ISP to Comcast Cable which is 6mbps compared to DSL 1.5 mbps will solve my DC problem? Obviously the easier method would be to find some sort of software that can allow my ISP to react better to SRO when filled with many users in my apartment complex.
I am nver actually DC from the internet, only SRO itself, which is weird. I am not sure. Does it have anything to do with the fact when I try to ping google it send one packet and the rest is timed out?

Any knowledge or help would be appreciated supremely.

Thank you so much!

Well, if everybody is useing the same phone line for their dsl, then that would definalty explain why you are getting much better internet while they are gone. Just try to get a decent internet service which doesn not use the same time as other people. I'm not sure how cable works though, because I haven't tried it. Of course, you could just have cruddy phone lines like I do, so changing to cable might fix it.
