He was probably doing something large scale that got him banned. the pk2 files that I edit are very simple in nature, just clothes and what not. Now if he was trying to do what I think he was doing which is something that JM would ban for then he deserves to get banned. I wont go into what I think he was doing because I dont want to leak it to others, or everyone would be doing it.

Please do not edit the files on the Silkroad folder for the 9th degree effect. The patch may find you have a check sum error then ban you for 3rd party software used on your computer. Besides, tampering with the software may bring unrecoverable disasters.

What is check sum?

What is check sum?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checksum
But sikroad can't use that for the simple reason: Game would take 20min for some ppl to even start.

As much as I have my pk2 file edited myself, I know for a fact that IF you move 1 byte the wrong way, the whole file is corrupted. You won't get banned for using an edited pk2 file. I have my whole music.pk2 replaced with my own songs lol... Not to mention the 100+ other edits (and some are quite large). Also I find it funny that you can replace iSRO's data.pk2 with ksro's and still run it just fine without joymax knowing shit... Kinda funny since there is close to a 400mb difference in filesize
Just trying to clear some things up.

Yeah zypher is right, sooner or later PK2 Editors will cross a line that joymax can find.

It's the same in WoW. People were quite amazed by Model Changing first, but you could change the models of some floors to "holes" and fall right through to areas you wouldnt of gotten to before, so they banned these people

I was wondering, i heard ppl got rid of that starch bug thing, where
nothing flows in the wind anymore, is that thru the PK2 editing too?
Cuz i would love to get back my garms flowing, but not get banned

I've done it multiple times and have changed a "byte" on it without it messing up.

the client isn't modded...just the files...lol. Well, media file to be exact =p.
And sunaj in your client when you load it up for the first time, go to options select graphics to not change, that will let you get the wind effect back, no problem.

Are you accusing people for no reason? And botters use same sro_client.exe as you, so ya.....

Im not accusing anyone, im just translating what he means by reinstalling his sro. Why do u have to reinstall if it's normal?

That's what I've been saying this whole time. I'm sure Joymax wouldn't ban someone for making her wolf look like a horse, but some edits could just go too far. Technically ANY edit of the pk2 files is editing their client software and could theoretically result in a ban. Maybe they will start banning for all edits, I don't know, but certainly if you go too far, it will be noticed and they would be justified in banning the person for it.
Jay wrote:the client isn't modded...just the files...lol. Well, media file to be exact =p.
Well I would say that ALL files included in the silkroad folder are part of the client, because without those files, sro_client.exe wouldn't run. Sro_client.exe in and of itself isn't the client simply because it is named "client".... it is just the client executable file.
If you change something in a data file, you are changing the way the client operates and are therefore changing the client.

First off, whoever said JM can't use Checksum for integrity checks on file systems, you are an idiot. Redundancy checks are in almost every sophisticated file system, and even the most complicated Checksum systems use hash integrity checks, which puts little to no stress on any system. Also, these checks are usually performed during installation, uninstallation, and updates.
Secondly, to get the 'Windy Effect', load up Silkroad, and at the load screen do the following:
- Click Options
- Leave your settings, but under Quality, scroll right, and choose 'No Change'
- Confirm this change, and start the game
Remember, if you make any changes in-game, you will have to redo these steps.

If u set
Read-only attribute for file
SROptionSet.dat, u dont need to redo these step if u made in-game changes
