I saw this in the brief hour I played Hero's Online also. After a certain period of time a little box comes up asking questions that are basic like 3+1 to help block bots.

In Hero's I only saw it when I went up so many levels, so it was obvious you were active at the time. I only played that game for about an hour or two during a SRO inspection so I don't know if it pops up any other time, but at the time I thought it was a good idea, if you gain x levels in y time, ask a question on getting the level to make sure it is a real person.

wat if a gey event like that happens when ur just about to finish soloing a unique?

Posted: Fri Mar 23, 2007 8:22 pm
by JaJa
Why would you get a level in the middle of soloing a unique? You don't get the exp until you kill it. Second, you have something like a couple minutes to answer I think, I don't remember now, so it isn't like you ahve to stop what you are doing to respond to it. It just sits in the corner until you click on it to put in an answer.

If people AFK stall, such thing is not possible. Like JaJa said, sometimes it's nearly impossible to do such thing.

Maybe if the pop up doesnt come up while you have a stall up..
It would suck if your fighting a unique and the pop up comes up lol

If they get a question like 3+1 and they get it wrong they deserve to get booted lol

OK, summarizing because apparently people didn't read what I said. In Hero's Online, when you gain a few LEVELS (not every level, just every few), and are thus active, a small NON-INTRUSIVE box appears in the lower left corner with a basic question to answer. You get like 3 minutes to put in an answer, so if you are being mobbed or something you have a bit to get safe before taking the 2 seconds to put in an answer. You would thus NOT get this box while stalling, nor when you are fighting a unique, and even if you are you have several minutes to put in an answer. It does NOT disable your controls, block your view, or do ANYTHING to prevent you from continuing to play. I have no idea what happens if you don't put in an answer, but it could be something simple as to flag your account for further investigating, or if you miss 3 in a row you get booted.

About this idea, i told JM long time ago.
Although, capturing a packet "answer" is not impossible to a programmer. Yes, they just modify the bot program like nothing happened. Dont underestimate programmers

There are several methods of sending out numbers in multi colors (like JM's image verification, but FAR better) that is incredibly difficult for a program to decipher. There are also other random questions they could ask, like Which of these are red? a. Banana b. Apple c. water d. Moon
And have the possible answer lists change constantly, and be stored server-side. Yeah, I know what is possible for a programmer, I am one. I also know what programs suck at, and while you can't fix it 100% you could make it VERY difficult for the bot makers to deal with.

This is probably the truest statement ever. The other bits can be bypassed and whatnot, but only some heavy-handedness is all that will really help the situation.
I keep running into them now, and many of them will even admit to doing it if they babysit. Last night I got one to attack me and go pink, so I killed the wolf and chased them around until they were no longer pink. 15 min later they came back and I asked what happened to the wolf, and they said "it died, I dunno how". When I told them what happened and suggested they turn off the KS mode on their bot, they said, "I don't normally turn that on, it should be off..." I can't believe there is no shame in it anymore, no fear of being banned.

Who's dumb enough to give a wrong answer to simple arithmetic problems.
1+1 = 11
