You would think that when microsoft releases its biggest os yet, companies like jm would already have a working copy of their game for it. But noooooo. Silkroad online does not work with windows vista yet. I tried it on the beta version and figured it was because of the beta. But this here list says it just doesn't work. (look at the bottom of the list where it says the incompatible programs.) grrrr jm. grrrr vista.

Hey sharp, why did you steal The-Dopp's sig? you can't just take it and put your own IGN on it and claim it as yours, if you have asked to do this already i apologise.
OT i was thinking about buying Windows Vista but so many bad reveiws, my brother says it sucks, you all say it sucks, for games it apparently sucks so i might just give it a miss until XP is just the shitpile.

Buying Vista so early is a mistake and a big one.

You people that say that buying Vista right now is a waste are wrong IMO.
Over the last few days, I have built 2 PCs. Both of which contained Vista.
I have had absolutely no problems with any software other than ATItool (OCing utility) and Hacked/Cracked programs.
I tested SRO, and I would dare say that it ran better on the Vista system than it did my XP system of the exact same specs.
I feel as though you anti-microsoft lame asses need to give a working OS a chance. I bet 90% of you are just going off of other opinions and not experience, or are basing your opinions on past versions of the OS that Microsoft has released.
I myself just purchased Vista Ultimate for myself and look forward to doing a clean install and starting anew with this wonderful OS.
EDIT: I also tested all my other games with the OS, and all of them worked perfectly with the acception of Cracked games.

i'm pretty sure I read there are only like 200 some programs so far that have been certified as compatible with Vista. Not at all surprising that SRO isn't.
edit it was 104, I found the article.

I have SRO running on XP on my gaming machine but I just bought a new laptop with Vista and its runs SRO decently. Wierd though that my laptop ran SRO good when I first got it and my buddy built a gaming machine with vista and it ran it great at the first just like my laptop. Now both machines seems to be real jerky with SRO. We think it might have been something screwed up with a patch from JM. How can 2 machines with vista start running games badly...its wierd. Also I noticed that file extraction with some programs is realllly slow with vista. The last bug I found is when I try to install SRO on a flash drive on my vista machine, it takes HOURS, my p3 laptop did it in a 10th of the time
Wait on VISTA people. My final thoughts.
1. Started running SRO worse than when Vista first launched.
2. File extraction bug
3. Doesn't like flash drives
XP FTMFW

I am going off of experience. I tested the beta of Windows Vista. Not only did it not detect my wireless network card (linksys didn't have the driver back then - it should work now) but sro did not detect a windows os and therefore would not install. I am getting the feeling that this is not an issue anymore. Please post if you got SRO to work on Vista. (im just curious)

Ok, everyone knows the MS releases products 80% completed. I remember the days when XP was running the same as vista now, but look XP was a great OS after SP1. Thats what i'm waiting for Vista SP1.
I worked with weekly builds of Vista (back when it was still called "Longhorn") and all i have to say is ZOMG, THE BUGGEST SHIT EVER. Granted most of the major bugs "should" be fixed by SP1, but you never know.

Well, good luck with that.
What it comes down to is that Vista is pointless. The only reason it was created is because XP has been out for 5+ years now, the majority has migrated to it, and now they need another way to make money. Simple as that.
Performance isnt the issue with me at all. I know i will get near equal performance from my above average pc whether i run XP or Vista, the only difference is that Vista will attempt to shape its users, where on the flipside, users are able to shape XP.
Thasp via DIY-Street Forums wrote:It's not a step ahead, it's a step behind. DRM balances out any benefit of DX10. The second the OS takes control out of my hands, it loses its worthiness - its usefulness, and its place on my computer.
The bottom line is there is virtually no reason to jump on the Vista bandwagon as far as function goes at this time, XP will do everything you need it to do for quite some time yet.
I have tested Vista. Multiple RC's and betas. Driver support was weak, and still somewhat is. Essentially forcing people to upgrade their current machines to run an OS is BS. Keep it, i want nothing to do with it.

There is your problem right there. You tested the Beta version.
As stated earlier, the only reason for going to vista immediately is if you are building a new PC.
However, I like the features, and I have not ran into any problems at all with performance or compatibility with hardware or software. Granted I have a fairly new computer setup.
I am however using Norton Ghost to make a backup of my current XP equipped HD and OS, in the case that I do have to revert back.
And again, I have tested SRO on Vista. I played with it for a while and it updated and worked great. So it does work. (this test was ran on the home premium edition BTW)

I have both, My pc is top shelf it dosn't get any better than a quad core 4 gigs of ram and twin 8800gtx with a physics card thrown in for good measure.
Vista is riddled with bugs not only that it wants to take control of my system.
My BF is a CCIE (cisco systems interwork expert) Owns a datacenter and an ISP is also a certified microsoft engineer . I myself am no slouch behind a keyboard.
Vista looks nice its friendlier more "Macish" but it is far from being a viable OS for an advanced user.
Add to that the hiccups with proggy's and what seems to be a slight memory leak and presto i stick to xp.

not sure...
not exactly sure how, but my friend changed the compatiblity of vista to run SRO....sry for not answering how...
SRO runs fine on Vista. I have it now and I won't be going back to XP. I'm not going to sit here and try to convince people that it's better, but IMHO, it is much faster and easier to navigate. I work in the IT field and I'm sure more and more people are going to be moving to Vista so I wanted to get a feel for it early and I'm glad I did. I have only had one issue with drivers/programs and that's my billing program. I'm fine with waiting for an update which I'm sure is coming soon. It takes some getting used to, and the UAC is annoying as ****, but once you get that turned off and the OS tweaked the way you want it, it's a very nice change. Not 5+ years nice, but it's on its way....
For compatibility mode, right click the shortcut of the program, click properties, click the compatibility tab and check the box.
