well, you put the item in the window, then you put the lixer in, make sure its the right one, then you put a lucky powder in, then you hit "fuse". and it will go +1. then you repeat until it says +4.

Yea, it seems that the things that determine the value the most, as in high br and crit like you said, are just gimmicks. I also believe its all random like everything in this game. You could try to figure an equation to say that a br 20 shield has a 30% higher chance than blocking a hit than your 12br shield, yet it all comes down to the roll of the dice everytime.

Perhaps that's because the weapon that was hitting the shield had a high Blocking ratio (the same with the crit, maybe the shield, if there is one, has a high Critical value).

I'd say it's pretty random from time to time but over a large time span the shield with the higher BR will probably block more.

Carefully read the word "can".
Luckily (or unluckily) chances do not look at their past.
They stay the same.
EG if you throw head 5times in a row, you'll still have a 50% (if it's an honest coin) chance to throw head.
Extrapolating it to the game world and block.
Let's say the BR is the chance off blocking a hit.
Then we can say that a 12 BR shield will block 12 hits when it has been submissioned to 100 hits.
Whereas a 20BR shield will block 20.
But this is only an average and it doesn't work that way on real cases.

Knowing chances only works well on large numbers, meaning: The chance will resemble the results more if the experiment is done more.
EG:
If you toss a coin 10 times it's fairly possible to see 8 times head and only 2times tail.
But if you toss it 1000 times the results will lie closer to a 500-500 division.

If we look at the BR with the above knowlegde we'll get these results.
A BR 12 can block more as a BR 20 shield when you look at 20 attempts to block.
However if you do the experiment more the outcome will resemble the expected outcome more.


And the displayed values probably aren't the real odds. It's probably only a piece of a larger equation. (same as critchances)
