ZOMG SuicideGrl started a thread! This one's a story, so read on if you wanna check out something that isn't an "OMG BOTTARRR" thread :)
So today my guildmate trickster, a 64+ pure str fire blader and lvl 4 trader who has been in BH longer than even I have, invites me on what we generally refer to as a suicide run from DW to HT w/ a full 5* ox. we call it such because the likelihood is great that we'll both die horrendously on the way, though in reality i think we have something like a 90% success rate on them.
So we're loading up and tedo, one of BH's officers and a 64+ pure int spear nuker, asks to come along. We leave DW from the south and proceed through the ravine and down past the Oasis, passing a few Uri campers and a few random grinders, and not a lot else. As we approach S. Tarim Ferry, a lone 70+ blader rides by on a horse. He reappears moments later on foot and garbed in thief, and immediately starts in on the ox. He tanks a volley of nukes from me and tedo, turns around long enough to bash tedo into the ground (sorry tedo), and...
**BAM** double thief spawn!! WORST timing ever. Well, i'm in hunter, so they immediately target me, and now the blader has focused his attention on me as well, so I phantom away just in time to see the ox fall behind me and see trickster's health drop to zero under a flurry of blade combos from the thief. I take a second to regroup, kill the remaining NPC thieves, and phantom back in, zerk, and 2-shot him. Score one for the good guys!
Meanwhile, tedo has come back in thief and is quickly gathering up the trade goods into a fresh ox. I stand there while the rest of my zerk burns off and see the thief reappear. I can attack him as soon as he appears, but he has to wait 5 secs before he can even move, and he's not buffed at all, so i'm dealing him some serious damage. He phantoms away and crosses the ferry while i beat back a spawn from tedo's ox, checking the map to see how long it'll be before trickster gets back on horseback. As we head toward the river with the ferry in sight, the "thief" charges back in , zerks, and starts in on me. I'm not a lightweight, I have over 11k HP as a hybrid, but he crit me for 14k w/ a knockdown, which was my first clue that this guy was probably several lvls above me (I'm 73 at the moment). I respawn before he can take out my wolf and wait a second for his zerk to burn off before reverse returning to the spot.
At this point, tedo is frantically potting his ox as a full gang of spawns are on him, but he has eluded the would-be thief for the time being. I catch up with him and get the spawns off him in time to see the trickster ride up and summon an ox. Out of nowhere, the "thief" is back, and he's in hunter this time. Quickly, tedo drops the goods, trickster picks them up, and we're back on target, but a few crits in a row from his blade sends me back to Hotan by the short route :( I reverse return back and buff up. Just before we finally cross the ferry, he's back in thief again!! We rush for the ferry and trickster crosses over while tedo and I keep him busy. tedo zerks but lags out after only one nuke; the thief realizes that i can tank his dmg pretty easily and decides to go for the spite kill and attacks my wolf!! Jerk. Luckily I have lots of "puppy pots", so we're both able to survive long enough for trickster to get away (but not before he performed a coup de grace on the zerked, lagged-out tedo :P).
This guy was persistent. He wouldn't give it up. He'd take out the ox, tedo would throw on thief and pick it up while i kept him from summoning a transport, he'd leave and come back as hunter to take out tedo, who would then drop the load so trickster could get it, which caused him to leave and come back in thief, rinse, repeat. At one point I just started running around and letting him chase me, thinking that he'd get bored and go away while allowing my guys to sneak through unharmed. Bad timing, though, because trickster took that moment to DC and loose a whole double spawn on the lower-lvl tedo, who dropped like a rock. We regrouped and kept this routine up all the way to Hotan south gate, where he came back one last time as trickster made a mad dash for the safe zone. He was chewing up the ox pretty bad, so I decided to try to ice him, hoping it'd slow him down. It worked! He froze solid, and trickster gained the safe zone. I phantomed in, called off my wolf (which he DID manage to kill once, grrrr), and we celebrated by talking loudly about how he had been outsmarted :)
Good times, everyone. Props go out to northstar from NoGuild for the good time :)
