Why shouldn't you pay for gaming?

I've noticed that so many SRO players are violently against paying real dollars/euros for virtual stuff. In my opinion regular gamers who say that they don't spend money on games is just illogical. Please don't make this into a flame war but I would be interested in knowing what you think about it.
-How many of you change your computer three times more often than your mother's old windows 98 machine just so that you can play games?
I do.
-How many of you have a game-orientated keyboard/mouse and pad/headphones, more expensive than the normal ones?
I do.
-How many of you pay more money than the average Joe to get good internet connexions?
I do.
-How many of you have payed 60€ to get a new game that you have been waiting for?
I have.
-How many of you pay for webspace/webhosting/server rentals?
I do.
Sure SRO is free, but unless you only have only ever played SRO you must have spent money on gaming. But people tend not to accept the fact that almost all hoobies cost money. Sure some cost more than others, I come from team orientated FPS games, and spent a long time playing with my team against other teams. Our team had 8 players and we had two game servers, a teamspeak server and a .com website - however, so did all the other teams...
Gaming in general is an expensive hobby mainly because of the hardware issue, SRO is free unlike others MMO's such as WoW or Lineage II - is that why it atracts so many people that are against paying money for gaming?

well, i think its joymax's service to us "customers".That is if ur relating to SRO of course.I think almost 60% ppl here in srf.com isnt really happy abt the service joymax is givin us.Bots etc ( ccf i believe is bein taken care of as we speak ).Basically most of us play bcoz we hav lots of friends in this game.Just like how u play fps , u need a team , u dont have one u either leave or join another.I guess u can relate to that.I personally dont mind spending $$ on gaming , i've been gaming for 7 yrs now.Well to say the least it isnt affecting my social life ^_^
PS : Please dont flame me

It's not paying for the game pple complain about. It's paying for service that leaves a whole lot to be desired.

How much for Tickets? Monkeys/Squirl? Other buyables do you spend?
In this game you either keep up wiht the pack or you dont and you wont unless you spend the money.......thus, those spending money are buying thier advantages over others in a way and that doest sit well with all people.
IIRC it cot like $13/mth to keep a Gold ticket and a Monkey in a game that can take forever to log into (might be better now), lags like hell and isnt even finished and if I wouldnt of quit playing I would of been 70 for about 6 months waiting for the cap to raise???
This game is designed to drain your cash from you........or let you play free and get your arse handed to you for not spending money!
lvl 52+ was a grind even wiht a ticket and I am not sure if I would of ever made it to 66+ without the ticket.
No quest is "fun" or "interesting" or even "challenging" they are nothing more than "do this for a few hours/days" so we can get more money out of you!
Ill stop, maybe i shouldnt even comment here since I dont play but I felt the need.
BTW.....after you upgrade your puter frequently to keep up with gaming it isnt so easy to keep paying monthlys, especially monthlys that expire wether you use them or not. I wouldnt mind monthlys as much if I could take 5 days off and not loose money btu they dont work that way.

Not only that, it gives people incentives to cheat.
The bot is cheaper than the gold ticket and far superior =(
Instead of $50 for silk, you can buy 50m in gold. Then buy 500 silk from some asshat for 5m.
45m + 500 silk for $50, it almost makes you stupid for being legit.
One month I spent $180 on silk. Not all at once - just hop on the SRO official site, add $50, buy your ticket, use some astrals. Then go add another $50 to +5 a guildmates weapon etc etc... you don't even realize how much you spent! Thats more than I spend on smokes

Gold ticket = exp hack, advantage x2
Monkey = auto loot hack, advantage x2 (no pickup, more storage)
Astral = SOS hack, advantage x2
What a non-silk player achieves in 6 month, a silk user can achieve in 1 month.
Bots = $8, little risk, advantage x3
Gold prices = 1$ = 1m, botted gold, little risk, advantage x3

right, he was just making a point there. Had nothing to do with any country, just money in general. And since Euro and Dollar are one of the most used currencies I think he made a right choice to pick those too.

I think you misunderstood lol.
I said that IF it had more options other then grind and do so called "jobs" which is pretty much stand and wait for a trader or be a trader.
Maybe then i would buy this game, but if it was only grinding based like it is right now then no thanks.
I dont see a reason to pay for a game which you have to play like a mofo to own and be as good as others.
You know what would be even better? If it wasnt so automatic.
All you do is mark a mob and smash your keys like a robot till you get too bored and log off.
If you could actually control your character and jump and all that stuff this game would be challenging because your lvl and gear wouldnt be the only things that matter.
But since its free the "service" is obviously pathetic and the game isnt THAT fun, i cant complain i guess.

KSRO maybe?
Very rare to see bots.
No lag, and Im across the globe.
Teamwork is very imporant, no longer 1 man grind sessons on 3 mobs for 3+ hours at a time. Living, dying, group(
res'rs)
Gold Ticket is 92 silk.

Ok, you have just put me off this game... and made a very good point too.

It quite simple really, Most people find a free game they
tell there friends and then there friends tell ther friends
etc etc... then you got alot of friends that joined the game
you and everyone start grinding/lvling then you reach lvl
26+ and to me buying silk isn't needed money becomes more
easier to get you get the stuff you need then go back to training
and the main thing most of us play is just to have fun, You dont
need to spend 50cents to have fun, The games free make the
most out of what you can while its still free. If you dont like it
then theres the options of either buying silk to make the game
more interesting/easier or else the other option of finding a new
game that you know you will enjoy.
I'm only lvl 28 and to me thats fine as long as im having fun
and not careing about what lvl i am and how much EXP i gain
then im ok with what im doing.
If i am getting frustrated then i go on the bus and go to a mates
house and get upto no good (making flour bombs, bottle rockets)
and even if i get told off for what i shouldn't of done i think to
my self, DAM I HAD ALOT OF FUN.

Because some people came to play a free game, and that is exactly what they are going to do.
It's not that we don't support Joymax

I decided to pretty much quit after I saw my current running total. Good God how could that have happened... I'll cut my loses now
As for topic, people are always against something. People who support commercial usually software bash on Free software and people that support free software usually bash on commercial software. Not a lot but it's just different matters of views.

I felt wrong just buying 300 silk and burning it up on Monkeys and Tickets only and once they made trading those impossible I told myself I was done the day the tickets and the Monkey ran out.
I am the type of player that expects to compete. Now, i dont mind being at a disadvantage which i always was, as I was always 5+ levels behind all the front runners that had more time, or later had botted, but when I finally realized the only way to keep even that close anymore was to pay for it I lost the will to go on.
Hell I had fun while I was here and I dont regret the 1100+ hours I put in this game and I dont even regret the silk I bought which was only 300 but I saw more expenses coming. When you can buy those other scrolls for bonuses it just shows you they dont care if the game is "balanced" and "good" they just want to take all the money they can out of you.
This game is nothing but a money pit if you "let it be". Those playing for free and having fun are the only winners here and I commend them on that!
Ryoko.......DOH......half a nice car, car payment for SRO!?!?!?
I saw how SRO got nominated for some rewards btu it missed the biggest one.
Biggest Money Pit of all Games of the Year!
PvP??? Christ the PvP in this game isnt good its all about how much money you spent and then when all that is equal its about luck!

To sum things up, people don't want to pay cause nobody is satisfied with the service you would be paying for. Okay, I'm off to go and buy Burning Crusade. Cheers

I think all games these days are overpriced, sure this game is free but who the hell has the willpower to grind to 80 legitamately with no ticket or monkey, it was hard enough to 60 but 80 you'd have to be a right no life whacko to do that
Not like the old days, you'd go out and get a game for £2.99 and it'd last u days and days, you'd probably never even finish it and you appreciated it more too cuz you couldn't just download it and crack it for free or whatever.
Showing my age now lol
