This legal freeware program lets you download youtube videos as avi's, just add the clip url and download, works great

FF and Opera (etc) have had the option to d/l streams for years. Get with the program people, uninstall IE for the love of god - and the hate of bill gates.

It's not default, you have to install an extension.
