Accessing Silkroad: An Art or a Science?

I have been trying to connect to Silkroad all day now. I get a message about server traffic being too high and then disconnected from server.
I just created a character last night on Olympus which said New by it (thinking this was a new server). Should I have made elsewhere?
Is this normal for Silkroad? I am pretty patient but I cannot imagine most people putting up with not even being able to access the game. So I am hoping it is not usual.
Also, does anyone else have their monitor click before going to desktop after pressing confirm on 'Disconnected from server'?

Red Sea is the newest server, but Olympus is.. the third, newest.

Uhmm.... because it's free?
ginny, about the monitor... if your game resolution is different than your desktop resolution, your monitor may be reseting from game to desktop. The click sound is probably a relay, or some other gizmo, in the monitor doing it's thing to change back to desktop.

This is very true! However, I plan on supporting the game through the shop thingy and it is a little disconcerting if I cannot even access the game

It is the same. I always set my desktop to the game resolution. Both are 1024x768, 100 hertz, 32 bit color.

Yes, it should not being doing this since they are the same. It ONLY happens when exiting the game. Either normally or due to the confirm on Disconnecting from server. Any exit, every time :O
Thank you for the replies.

It's pretty much peak hours right now. Even more crowded since it's the weekend. In a few hours it should be easier to log in. We're getting near the end of the peak hours for today.

My concern is that I will probably only be able to play during Peak Hours
Also, I still have not been able to access the game to have my first play session (just created last night). Kind of silly really, but what can you do ^^

12:45 PM Pacific Coast time... finally got in after trying all morning. Peak hours must be pretty consistent. I typically can't login until after noon.

I rarely lag and only have problems logging in at peak weekend times.
Try turning down your graphics settings or get a better ISP

i do get points of lag but nothing thats problematic
as for peak times i just get myself an auto logger and i found out if you space out the time that you press enter(instead of just jamming it down) you get alot more trys to log in before it closes the game

I'm pleasantly surprised how smooth and stable this game is. I get small hits of lag here and there, but overall... it's impressive. And, like I said, the only times I've had trouble getting on are the late AM hours.
There's a difference between frame rate and lag. If your getting jumpy motion, then do as cuchulainn suggested. I thought I was suffering from lag problems in town because of all the people. Then I changed 'Shadow Detail' to 'Circle,' turned 'Bloom effect' off and the difference was amazing.

This is why SRO will never be a good MMORPG. If you can't even get on, you can't even enjoy the game.

The irony is, I am almost out of time to play and I still cannot get on
It seems like a nice game though ... at least, I hear it is

Interestingly, I managed to get on and enjoy a play session. Then I got disconnected, then I could not get back on.
Later, I tried again and got back on... then ... I ... got ... disconnected ... and ... came ... back ... on ... dead ...
Which was not particularly fun.
I started playing again around the tombs and ... then ... I ... got ... disconnected ...
See a trend?
Now, before anyone says that it is my connection, I play several other MMOs and never, I repeat, never a. have trouble logging on and b. get disconnected once on.
Very solid cable modem.
So is this the norm for Silkroad, seriously? Or are the servers undergoing some kind of maintenance?
In conclusion, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKK! <- cry of frustration ^^

It being free has alot to do with it. I think at one point unless they are making good money this way. After Euro and Greeks open up I could see them going to some kind of pay to play format. Having to buy so many silks a month or something.
Its ok to make a game free but for those who pay real money its kind of a slap in the face.
Yea im one of those A-Holes who never gets knocked off and stays logged on all weekend. I just windows out of it to do othere things.

I have played other client-based mmorpgs, and never have had the incredible amount of lag and failed connections as I have with this game.
Reason: Half-ass support from a company who only cares about money. I gurantee if Joymax didn't get 1 dollar the next month, they would patch lots of things on this game.

Honestly, why would you do that, and then even admit to it? Your no better than botters/scammers.

Why not go down the lane? It's a problem that needs to be addressed, and it won't go away if we ignore it. Its such a pansy thing to do is AFK all day so that you can get on whenever, when some people can't even connect after 20 times. It's very unfair and needs to be stopped.
