a way to stop the bots? read if u have the time

this theory to stop the bots actually came from an idea from my microeconomics teacher. she said "dont force them to not do something, give them an incentive to not do something".
so i thought of this:
as many of u know, drops in general are quite rare. during one grinding session, u might get an average or 0 or 1 drops. SOS drops are even more rare. So, im thinking, whenever you try to pick up and equipment drop, or an elixer drop, or SOS, the game asks u to imput a random code like this:
if its unclear, you can choose to refresh the image to another one. it'll time u for X seconds or some time limit. a legit player would undoubtly enter the code correctly and get his drop. however, a bot (assuming he doesnt babysit), cant enter the code (and those random codes like the ones above are designed to be bot-script-automated proof). therefore, bots cannot get drops, bots cannot get SOS, bots get poor, less incentive to bot. of course, these question boxes will only appear if u attempt to pick up a equipment, jewlery, SOS drop.
also, the game can also record those who repeatly enter the code incorrectly, or those who dont enter them at all. taht way, GMs can create a potential bot list, and do their stuff.
of course, there can be some exploit to this, but hey, its worth a shot.
discuss.

sounds ok but it might get irritating. Why not just put this thing at the log in screen?

There are programs that are getting better and better at reading those.
Besides, they get their ccfed gold and don't care.
A way to stop the bots is submit the bot list 3 times a day with 50 other people. Apparently it worked on Troy.

If it had worked, PooprScoopr wouldn't be a bother anymore.

But didn't alot of bots from your caves get banned recently?

Edit: this method only stop the item drops. The bot still get pretty darn good XP and gold.
--------------------
I have a solution about this but it would be too far fetching as it would require an overhaul of the game.
Basically what keep a bot going is the fact that it can heal itself easily (spell or potions). The motivation of the bots is to get EX and/or gold. Botting is easy because the grinding is too repetative.
1. Make it hard to grind by yourself.
What JoyMax could do I to put a cool-down time on the pot/healing spell. It's ridiculously and unrealisticly fast to heal yourself with potions right now anyway. Of course this would slow down the grinding process and to counter it, JM need to lower the experience, sp requirement. This might even better for the game because it would enforce people to grind as a group.
2. Cut down the goals of the bots.
Just don't allow them to grind on easy mobs. If they grind on green, they get no XP nor gold! So if they grind on gray, they would easily die.
3. Reduce the repetitiveness.
Make the quests shorter and add more quests. Make the rewards worth something so people like to do quest.
I would like to see they create a bot to fight in a group, heal each other and do quest.

Every large warrior room has at least 2 bots going in and out constantly.

even if the bots are capable of doing that, which remained to be verified, the quests would be too short so the botters don't get good XPs/reward items from completing quests since botting = repetitive behaviors. So the human players win!

An idea from another game I heard about which would give SilkAssistants(mabye GM's) some power to *DO SOMETHING*!
the ability to Give a player a *locked chest* which isn't stackable (eg 1 locked chest = 1 inventery space. Just like elixirs) when a SilkAssistant or Gm forces this item into someones inventery then a window comes up saying *Enter these 5 didget number/letters* which would be clearly displayed in the middle of the window. if they dont enter the code within 20seconds then the box would replicate every 20 seconds untill the inventory is compleatly full, hence bots couldnt pick any items up. and the only way to get rid of these box's is to Right click on each one and enter the random 5 didget Number or alphanumeric sequence.
Imagine coming back to see 5 or 10 of those things sitting in your inventory and it would be good for the SilkAssistants to have this power so it could be more widely used.

there can still be a margain of error within these programs. the game can record which users repeatedly type the sequences wrong, and record the offset of this error. supposed the sequence is ABCD123, and the bot cant recognize the "D" in it and keeps typing ABCP123, game records the event, sends to GM for investigation.
any the thought of those more complex quests gives more incentive to do them. like that liquor quest. that gave quite a hefty amount of SP. remember when u had to give the drinks in a certain order? im suer a bot cant do that

(maybe they can, dunno).

Why not random events, like runescape.

in hero i remember they gave you a very simple addition problem in these little things every 50 kills or something. you get extra exp a certain length of time or gold or something. just kinda shows if anyone is there...and helps your addition. similar to your idea. good thought.

I know that guilds that hate it each other would just go and do that just to f.u.c.k. them up. It would never work. None of these ideas would work.
The main idea would be to re-create the full security system and change something that would really hurt the bot population. 1 massive ban of about 50 people per server would decrease the bot population because they would get to scared to bot. Just my opinion.

I say they put in random scans in the "updates" and scan for "nameofbot.exe" or whatever files are associated with the bot(s), and if they are found, permanent IP and account ban.
I know there are some people who download bots to find out how they work to better spot them, but that isn't your job to be the bot police, and face it, you are only doing it for person gain since you, and everyone knows that you really aren't accomplishing anything or stopping botters from botting.

Anything that is sent for the character to see, read or interact with has to hit the memory first. Anything that hits the memory can be eventually decrypted and read.

Yes, and hyongcheon field is full of botters, the tomb (south jangan) is full of botters, the ravine also got some botters, and im not talking about karakoram >.>
Btw, i support that idea Hex, i think it is really good, but couldnt it causelag or any other problems?

That is an awesome idea man. Other than the fact that it would sorta suck if you get many drops in one grinding session. In one hour session I get 2-5 equip drops.
What truly sucks though is that there is an awesome way to get rid of all the bots, well most of them anyways. To be honest with you, i could give a crap less about people doing it to lvl up. But we have all seen the gold botters, we all know where they are.
In Greece-
Yeohas
Chajki Workers
Hyeungchons
Ongs
If Gms can honestly say they have been to these places, and they can't tell that these are bots. Then I guess there is nothing more that anyone can say.

I don't really care that much abotu bots outside the cave...
Ban them, they are setback a day or two? up to 3x, a week or two to 4x, and a month at the most to 5x?
2 bots in a warrior room = much better.
On the weekends we have 5-6 in warriors, and at least 5 bots + 6 people in nachal.

What im talking about is....
1. If you ban these bots, less lag on server
2.More drops for legit players
I mean come on, at least name your bot Bunny_love, or some shit like that..lol Not ltyhfuuw
