NPC thief problems are just caused by poor design

When i first encountered thiefs i made a post here that they have to stop to kill all newbies in sight. I was told to get over it.

Now i am higher, and i still got thief problems, now with high level PPL thiefs that spawn their NPC thiefs to disrupt my trades. It all comes down to this: All NPC thief problems are just caused by poor design.

You create a homing missile for a certain purpose, at the right lvl for that purpose, in the right location for that purpose and then you forget a small important thing. Homing missiles need to be set on the right target. You can´t just set them off randomly destroying everything. At least you should not.

And don´t tell me it´s difficult. All MOBs have a hate list that determines what target will be attacked first. On creation thiefs need to get that target. Top Spot on hatelist: The convoy animal of the PPL that spawns the thief. 2nd Spot: The PPL.

That way unconcerned bystanders have a good chance to be ignored, till the thiefs finish off their intended target.

I come from Everquest, where intentional training was not a cool way to get rich quick, but a banable offense that ALL Player frowned upon. The forums and the Devs here in this game give me the impression, that this antisocial behavior is intended and applauded for in SRO.

Then you are exactly the player this change is for :)

Or would it be too hard for you, if your thiefs are coming after you ?

next trade update will cover that problem

It will eventually be fixed in job update in which npc thieves will only attack traders/hunters and player thieves can't spawn npc thieves anymore, instead they will spawn npc hunters. Though there still will be groups that use trader to pop npc thieves on other traders and player thief to gather the loot but at least solo 1* popping will be made impossible and people without job suits will be safe.

It's the same in Anarchy Online - if you make "a train of monsters" and pull that on other players to kill them, you get banned if the "trained" people petition you.

Rofl, I run around with light bows killing people. I can tank all my theives, unless a 5 star dbl spawns...Then Im gonna run.

good thing about thieving

if you get lazy and have a 5star
get all of em on you when they spawn
then run = no fighting
easy moneyXD

Wow. Comparing a retarded missile with a thief. Newbies around thiefs should die. They are eyewitness. :P

I agree here, _when_ the newbie is witnessing a thief job. However, there have been times that I was out grinding in the middle of nowhere. A high lvl player thief would come through with goods on his transport (maybe looking for a trader to pop) and he would run directly towards me to drop his NPCs on me. During those times, I'm not in a job suit at all. I didn't witness the thief stealing anyone's goods. Sure, I know he has stolen goods, but I don't know where they came from, so what can I do about it?

The thief shouldn't be able to run up to me and have me killed just because I happen to be around where he was running while he's waiting for the bandit den scroll to activate.

I LIKE doing this.

Mostly because those bystanders randomly talk shit - just like trading yesterday, some kid at chakja saw us passing by and said 'get a life nerds'

I killed him with NPC, he deserved it, and I enjoyed it.

Rank (level) has its privileges.

Lol...i agree with chaud. Why would you want to stay close to traders/thieves with transport? Wanna say: "Hey cool horse/camel/ox?"

When you see trader, run! Even if there is a giant, just run a little bit. Don't get too close to traders/thieves and you're fine.

Hope JM won't fix the problem soon.

Well I completely understand the fun in killing off a noob bystander because he or she is talking like that in chat making fun of your trade or whatever. My point was if I'm minding my own business, not interfering with your thief job or anything, why come up to me and have me killed? Especially if I didn't even see WHO you thieved.

Oh yeah, I almost always run away when I see a trade run coming through or a thief with a transport. My problem is sometimes I don't even see them. They come from off the bottom of my screen, and I don't have time to run.

However if I see a trade coming through and the player is about my level or lower, I sometimes help fight off the NPC thieves, but if there's a player thief there, I don't get involved.

Sounds much better :)
Any ETA on that ?

I still think preset aggro would be the faster solution.

OT: On a side note, how do you put your server flag under your name in these threads? I see some users have a flag and some don't, but I can't find an option for it.

As a fellow EQ2 player, I must let you know now -: The Joymax devs are.. slow. Any ETA you would be given would be broken.

Best to wait and pray. ;)

Type in your server name for your location in your profile settings.

Thanks. I just thought that was a place to put your country or city/state. I updated it :)

I believe joymax stated that they didnt care about this, with other words of course ^^

And it propably wont be fixed for a loooong time.

Doenst matter to me though, much funner robbing multistars than running around popping 10k worth a loot.

I couldn't agree more. I actually got to rob a 5 star today for my first time, well almost. After I took the goods, my npc thieves killed me while I was waiting for the bandit scroll to activate :( Maybe there was another thief nearby because some of the ice npc's were red to me.

Perhaps I should have stayed on the horse and potted it like mad.

And fighting 5 NPC Thieves when you are thief is not easy when you are low level. Even at high level, 5* double pop is always funny :D

But red???? If it is orange it sounds more reasonable.
