Just came back to check on SRO after months of not playing.

So what exactly is SRO-R? I'm quite confused.
Is it simply Silkroad but with faster leveling and less sp farming?
Also, is it still just as full of bots and botters? Are there legit guilds?

I suggest you go read the silkroad-r website.
It will explain the most important stuff. And yes, faster lvling, farming is not needed at all. Cold, Fire, Light is made into ONE mastery level instead of 3 separate ones. Warriors got nerfed, Cleric got nerfed. Pretty much just look at the website

Yes, there are still bots, no the servers are not full, as there are no goldbots. And yes, there are legit guilds

Sounds great, I might join you guys soon.
Do chinese characters still level up way slower than euro ones?

No, its even possible for chinese chars to join in partys now because of some skills...
and the quests make it way easyer/more fun to solo if needed

If you take the new Cleric (called Recovery) force skill, probably.
But then again, you might go with Force (fire, light, cold) and a weapon. Each weapon has a skill like Pain Quota. So yeah, it's kinda nice

Oh and I forgot to ask, is the cap still some unreachable number like 110 or 120 or whatnot? Or was it lowered to an older one while this is still new?
Also, the game doesn't seem to launch for me, says it's under maintenance for an hour or more now, the site says nothing though.

Now when I open it it starts patching and gets stuck on like 11%, and then says some error that patching failed.
I tried allowed silkroad.exe in the firewall but it doesn't help.
No SRO for me I guess.

You just have to keep trying to open the launcher. This have happened a lot of times for me on ISRO whenever they made a patch. Sometimes I had to open it like 20 times before it finally came through.
So yeah, I highly suggest you try that. If it doesn't work, try re-installing the game all together.

I've been trying a lot.
It also says there's an inspection now.
I guess I'll try to uninstall if it keeps not working, thanks.

Tried to reinstall, then tried to launch it many times. Now it won't even get to the part where it gets stuck after 4%.
Too bad I guess.

Seems like you have the same issue as Hideoki (I think that's how his username is spelled). So far we've not found any solution to it, though.
Guess the only thing to do is re-install windows....
I honestly do not think it will work, but have you tried updating your drivers?

Maybe this will help:
Go to: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
open 'hosts' with notepad
add the follwoing line if it is missing : 127.0.0.1 localhost
or it will look like this (W7) :
Save it (control + s)
Start now silkroad.exe, it will update/load the launcher

This is how it looks for me before I made any changes to it.
So I assume this isn't the issue since there's already that line there?
Also, earlier it got to like 60% and then it stopped again with the same error (error 4 or 5). Now it won't even start loading up the patch.
Also: I'm using Windows 7 64bit.

what antivirus/firewall are you running as i run windows 7 64 bit and your host file is identical to mine and i have ran sro-r successfully/without a problem.. also make sure the router firewall isnt blocking it (i dont know how to check that one though)

I don't have any active AV, just one for scanning and that shouldn't do anything to this.
I use the default W7 firewall and I allowed silkroad.exe, not sure what else I might need to allow.

try shutting your firewall of for one time launching sro.. if it works then you atlest know the problem lies there

Yes indeed

However, Silkroad-R launched, which is way way better than the normal Silkroad.
