It could be true, but the way I see it is that you get huge ammounts of extra exp anyways, because you grind on mobs from 9 levels higher than your own level.
If you can survive, and kill fast enough, go on mobs as high as possible.

However, higher level mobs will drop less items IIRC.

Item droprate is lower even in party. But because you are a party you will kill much faster resulting in a what seems high drop rate. But its not ^^
And yes
5 lvls higher = 30%
7 lvls higher = 60%
9 lvls higher = 90%

I know that what Tasdik said is true , but not sure about what wicked said .
firefinal1's post seems true though .
