Silkroad is a nice game when there's people to play with.
In it for PVP? There's mindless CTF that is actually fun. And is the equivalent of joining a pub in FPS games - just with language barriers. Get with a community and you can get levelheaded (RIP Cape pvp) free pvp
In it for PVE? Silkroad can only do one basic thing. And that's killing a monster over and over. It can be fun, but it really gets stale if you do not have goals/friends to play with, so you can grind through the staleroad. Oh hey there's Forgotten World - same approach, gets stale and the last boss is absurdly boring and the reward is annoyingly annoying.
Silkroad is the piece of chicken without spices. So after awhile it starts tasting pale because you're eating it for breakfest, lunch, and dinner for too long. People who play with you will add spices and turn that chicken into a chicken with spices.
Crafting? You need gold to do this and it can be fun to do. I've done it when I'm bored regardless of the results.
Don't ever recommend this game to a new player unless they have guidance from a veteran. More the veterans the better - as well joining with people who are low levels.
Most of all. Make sure to Farking tell whoever you are trying to recruit to Silkroad that the overall community is Farking shit. And the only possibility in enjoying the game is to join a community that is in it for actually playing the game. Or just play a WoW private server
Above said is for legitimate mentality.
In it for botting? Do yourself and your buddies (and everyone else) a favor and let the game die (haha, I joked. It's dead already. Legits only necromance it for periods of time) and don't add onto it

At least I got a reply xD. Silkroad isn't as painful to play with friends playing with you, especially ones you know in real life. I'm sure you have tried at one point, as have we all. It's a great game, at least until a better one comes along.
We have tried and we failed.
Lesson learned is to NEVER TRY.

yep that is so true. silkroad is a complicated game especially to beginners. I have a friend who left this game around 3years ago and he recently play again. sometimes its really annoying cuz he has too many n00bish questions.

I wouldn't say Silkroad Online is a complicated game. The reason for veteran guidance is because of the shitty community. And so they need to be guided along the way to have whatever positive experience they can get from what is left in the game

For some of us reading this is our anti SRO. Many of us get nostalgic at times for the friends now gone and the times passed. Thoughts of logging back in creep in to your mind. Then you read what total screwups joymax still is and reality crashes back in saving you. This is all.

Braingeyser. What I meant by guidance is hands-on guidance. Where the player (I recommend many players) is in server with the new player. In the end, just play on Azteca as it is the biggest legitimate community, with Iris being in second - although Iris is most likely dying due to Azteca.
Some people are just bitter, and for a good reason. Bot overrun community - meaning no balance to the game. Joymax's special 'Job war' is dead. Gold inflation by goldbots. And sheer idiocy and promising breaking (aka lies) from Joymax. And because of the lack of balance to the game, low, mid level play is FUBAR. Only chances to enjoy the game is to get with a community (as stated above; Azteca) of legits.
Above is common ground guidance to be said for any self-respected player.
Otherwise the bot path know no bounds. Do whatever in this case.
Off to the side question. Braingeyser, what is your experience of Silkroad Online - how long have you been playing?

I introduced my girlfriend to the game, and she loves it.
Pro is that it's something we get to do together when we're not in the same town.
Con, she's effin addicted.

Braingeyser, it'll be a dumb move on anyone's part to stay on a dead server. And this is precisely from a legitimate perspective. Not all players who claim to be legit are legitimate as in - actual legits - they only party grind or solo grind with their two hands.
There's always bot riding - aka riding goldbots, taking free plvl; which is a workaround actual botting. Unless that specific legit player is not doing those things and is seriously being a 'purist' they can enjoy all the bot company they want. Is that a smart choice? Honestly, I think it isn't and they are losing out on the actual gameplay from a large group of players. I.E. Loads of fun.
Don't stay thin and spread out. Get in with a big community. Don't be dumb and bring people to your dead server. Conceited? No. It is the symbol of legitimacy. Iris was, now Azteca.

Iris still is, and could've been even bigger if it wasn't for this stupid Azteca thing. Why make a new movement instead of joining an existing one?

The general opinion is true among botters. If you're planning to party as a legit with bots, I have no idea what your plans are. They start up a party, turn on their bots, and they go. Get with a community, don't drag your friends to somewhere, where there is low to none potentiality for having group play. Go to Azteca.
You want reasons to get friends to play? Well, this is easy - if you're on Azteca. Say: "there's a good community, people will help each other. Lots of party play - you can't go on without having a party up already. The worse that can happen is that the parties are full."
What are you going to tell them on the 'dead' servers? "Well, we got bots we can ride on. Where we can go afk 24/7; or play with botters in a party that lack the workmanship of an actual player playing; to be engulfed in the bot community we're we'll bot too; to not experience the large impact of a big community in the sense of group play, but in the sense of bot play."
There's lots of people, including myself, who aren't racing to the cap. Azteca has these people. Bring your friends to a healthy community.

Such statements I've stated should be heeded or you're just bringing sheep into a server of wolves.
You say your focus is to educate new players. How more wrong can you be to not discuss the details of the servers? Okay. You didn't say the word educate, but you want players to join the game. And - even worse - new players to the genre.
How can you say it will only work for regular players instead of new (god forbid new to the genre) when majority of the servers lack actual gameplay? It isn't just to 'convince' players to stay but it is the defining factor for Silkroad Online play. Unless, of course, you or your buddies plan to bot, endure playing alone, and/or playing with bots.
Look before crossing the (Silk)roads, heh?

You seem to be looking too into what I am saying. Taking sides? No, I have not said anything relative to 'taking sides.' Nor is there promotion, promoting, or of the like. It is the details that need to be said for any persuasion for the likes of Silkroad Online.
There wasn't any declaration that you or your buddies plan to do what I've said. But are the likelihood if one does not join a community such as Azteca. It doesn't mean you will, but of the options given, it will probably be the case - to not experience a healthy community. It is scenarios given to provide a perspective of why the need to take account of communities become extremely important.
It is impossible to give the positives of Silkroad Online, in a way to persuade people, without conversation about the communities. It's just how it is no matter how you try to separate the two - and I'm assuming your separation is gameplay and community.
The community is what make games brilliant. It is also a MMORPG, a genre that derives itself from socializing. How more wrong can you get?
I found your last bit insulting. And at this note, I presume you are frustrated and I will take my leave. Good day.

my bro used to play WITH me. then he discovered Granado Espada and got addicted to that.
but. he continues to express his desire to play silkroad. according to him, the reasons he doesn't are simply these:
1. he's too involved in Granado Espada at the moment
2. ppl and mindless grinding don't matter if he had money to buy silk for an item pet but he doesn't.
but. that's not the point of this thread. how did i get him to play?
he simply saw me playing it quite often during the early days when i didn't know you could scroll down the skills page and asked if he could to.
how did he maintain interest long enough to play three different build characters to level 3x? i helped him in the beginning to understand the game as well as i knew. told him there were bots but those don't matter if you're able to log in and play and have fun.
btw. he didn't care if he solo-ed. just wanted to play.
and no. he wasn't a 12 year old kid.
oh. how did i, myself, get introduced to this game?
i was part of a gaming clan and one member suggested we try playing sro together. we tried it. others left because they liked fps games better. i didn't have the hardware to run it at the time but when i did, my initial interest reminded me of it and i have kept playing since (though on and off).
