[GM] Balacas confirms silk buying bots are not to be banned.

Post by Goseki »

Well with kSRO getting an official bot soon and this, looks like it's official. Bot to your heart's content as long as you got some silk it seems. Not really big news, just official. Never heard a GM speak out like that before.

Usual thing in MMO's nothing new. Why ban someone who is paying 200+ Dollars a month to fund there greedy salaries.

"Bots that spawn in the city or have silk are not allowed to be touched"...."GMs using bot".....WOW...if this is true that's a new low for SRO...I would think that as a GM you don't need a bot or even have to grind you can get a char for any level with any gear...This can't be real....

I think after statements like these coming from a GM the SRO community will go from 97% bots to 99.999% with 00.001% not botting because they didn't know they could..lol...dang this is crazy

wth? why would a GM need to bot? all they need is a "emergency server inspection" to create a DB entry of a char of lvl xxx, with FB+100 gear and 50 mill sp

What is the other side of the "not banning silk botters" story? (rhetorical question) Maybe certain GMs can't ban them because silk botters have to be treated differently in some way. Part of some kind of investigation of some sort?

I would have to agree that a GM would never need to use a bot for leveling. However, there could be a good reason for it. They could use bot software to study it. Bot out in the field while watching what happens in the database. Inspect packets as they traverse the network. Things like that.

Security researchers sometimes do it. Purposely download viruses or other malicious malware onto an isolated system or network to see how the malware works. The better you can understand a piece of software, the better chance you may have to fight it.

As for the original post, it'd be nice to actually see something about this from Joymax's official site instead of a site on blogspot.com. How official is that site?

Go to the official forum on sro site. Go to GM lounge. Click on GM Balacas' lounge. Page 2 or so. It's all in german, but I think that's about where he says it.

I would agree with the GMs wanting to know how the bot program works in order to counter it and get rid of it except they've had 4+ years of "understanding how it works"..Even when the bot changes versions I still think having 4+ years is enough to find out how each version works and then stop it in a subsequent manner...So I can't buy into that theory....But the source of the information is up for debate though...

wow i read his GM journal and Balacas seems to be the ultimate buddy GM.

If the GM's are allowed to express their opinions about so much in the company without getting banned straight away, it means that WeGame really changed something.. if not much ingame yet, then at least the Joymax staff's mentality

Actually this particular post he made about the bots is deleted. (or i am blind an can't find it again)

But cause this ofcourse wasn't left unseen from the german players in a forum i am visiting i found a quote of the passage :

Also Saftladen trift es eigentlich!

Bot is bot für mich. Aber mir sind die Hände gebunden.

Ich denke das beantwortet deine fragen bezüglich Bots. Echt traurig.

And translated by me:
Douchebag company hits it pretty well! [Can't think of a better translation for "Saftladen", sry]Im a really frustrated the last few days. Well WeMade cleaned up a bit, which is good, but in my opinion they are still to soft.

We aren't allowed to touch bots which spawned inside of the citys, or Bots who baught silk. Which in my opinion is a catastrophe. Well i can kinda understand the silk thing (suggestions to go against them are ignored) and at the city ones i always get told. They don't do anything, they could be normal users. I'll tell you. Bullshit !(Sorry but it's need to be told)
I would kick them all no matter if they pay or not. I wouldn't make a distinction between bots. But my hands are tied.

I think that's gonna answer your question. Really sad.

no gms dont have the right to use that kind of power in such a way. they have their gm account, and they can then have a seperate personal account.

Am I the only one who believes that "We have also sbot users!" can be understood different than what is written on silkroadsecrets?

I'm not talking about the "not banning silk buying botters" but rather the party about GM's using bots. If you look at what he said in the chat, it could be understood like this:

"It's nice to see that there are actually some real players left, and not just bots. Well, of course we also have the bot users but at least there are SOME players left."

Maybe it's just me.

Nevertheless, this kinda sucks!

Well you do have a good point. Maybe with WeMade taking over, policies are changing and the GMs are slowly getting more powers in the game, but the company isn't ready yet to give full powers to them for whatever reason. From a business standpoint, they might not want to open the flood gates for the GMs to do whatever they want until they (management) learns who they can trust, etc. Just a random thought.

As for the original post, it'd be nice to actually see something about this from Joymax's official site instead of a site on blogspot.com. How official is that site?

Silkroad secrets is more official than Joymax ever will be. Also, do you really think joymax would say you're allowed to use 3rd party programs? Look at the screenshots. When asked "are silk buyers banned for botting?" Balacas says he isn't allowed to answer that question, although we already know it. Nuff said.

Just because you prefer a website doesn't make it more official. If Joymax officially changes their policies, of course they would announce it (I would hope). If Balacas were to answer the question, he'd have to be careful how to answer it. "Yes" could be interpreted as "yes all silk buyers are banned for botting". Does that mean everyone who buys silk is banned even if they don't bot? Probably not, but people (the media) can interpret things in different ways and you can bet they would interpret it in the worst way to have a good story.

It may be a matter of legal concern. Balacas is tasked with enforcing rules, but either is instructed not to talk about certain things, or has taken it on himself to not talk to protect himself. Again, I'd rather hear an official announcement from the company itself rather than the word of one employee who may have another agenda, or perhaps is misinformed.

Now it's confirmed why so many bots made it from 1-110 without getting banned and why some make it to 40 and get banned. Maybe their Bot detection really works, they just don't ban their money makers.

Silkroad secrets has been leaking info on what's to come on silkroad for over a year now. Never did he fail to predict it, but that's a different story. Moving to my opinion on the silk-bot topic.

So you want to read an official Joymax statement saying all silk buyers are allowed to bot? Do you have any idea of what a statement like that would do to their reputation? "Players who buy in-game money (silks) are now allowed to use 3rd party programs to enhance their gaming experience." It is completely random to predict what would happen. They are aware that they farked up the game already with the exp rate. They wouldn't want to stain their reputation months before releasing silkroad 2 now would they?

The only viable option for them is to implement the "auto-hunting" tool like they did in ksro and probably profit from it. Then, they just keep the caps coming like they are doing right now and hope for players to hold on to the game until it is finished. So they can start over and don't **** up the rates next time. But that's just my humble opinion

If an Apple web developer posted something on the website about how Apple put spy surveillance software onto your iPhone so they can activate your web cam remotely anytime they want, without your knowledge, would that make it official? Does that mean the software is really there?

It would be a rumor to investigate I suppose, but the word of one GM with a possibly hidden agenda isn't an official company announcement.

Like I said before, maybe as far as Joymax is concerned (as incorrect as it may be), a statement like that wouldn't ruin their reputation because a huge majority of their player base bots anyway. So give the players what they want. Release an auto-hunting feature and the community will be thrilled... The hundred or two on each server who hate the idea will leave and make room for more botters.

Of course I'm sure Joymax wouldn't want to turn their game into a 100% botted game, no actual human interaction in the game. So they'd just need to give the botters something to actually do in the game besides auto-hunt.
